WoW Authenticator Issues

I'm trying to start playing WoW again after finishing sixth form forever :O But I am having trouble logging into my battle.net account.

I remember the username and password, but it asking me to activate my authenticator and enter the 6-digit code. The problem being, I don't own an authenticator and have never linked one to the account. I thought that it was a new security feature as to where ever player has to have one (although it still might be) I have read that it is still optional. If it is compulsary, that will suck as it's not available for my Blackberry Curve 8520 and cannot get to a store before Tuesday.

Does anyone know is there is a way to see if an authenticator has been added to my account and a way to remove it?

Thanks
Ben

Contact customer support, they will be able to sort it for you. gimme a few mins and i'll get you the number from uk.

0800 931 0800

oh and i read over your post a bit more, the authenticator is not mandatory.

It looks like someones hijacked your account at some point, somehow and to prevent you from logging in and ruining their plans they've placed an authenticator on.

Usually sorted within a couple of days once you contact customer support though.

Ah right, I'll have to wait until Tuesday then, but maybe they won't be closed as Blizz HQ is in Paris/Ireland and it's only UK bank holiday.

I can't speak for the phone option, but my friend's account got hijacked, he emailed Blizz support on saturday, and had the account back on sunday, which suprised both of us. Pleased me greatly :)

OMG seriously. I never used to get scam wow emails, but have about 5 in the last few days... what the hell.

Hehee, I get a scam WoW email literally every single day...and its nearly 2 years since I cancelled my sub. Funnily enough I didnt get a single scam email until about 3 months ago and now I get 1 WoW one every day. Unfortunately for them they missed the boat as my account hasnt been used for 2 years :)

I can only assume that people are stupid if they fall for some of them. They're written in such broken english that you have to re-read them a few times to understand what the hell some of them mean. Then again, I'm sure some look a bit more legit. :p

*EDIT*

Actually, I'm curious, how do they find out your email address?

Same way all the other spammers do. Send the link out to anyone, doesn't matter if they have a WoW account or not :p
