Hi i have just downloaded the 10 day trial for WoW and don't have a clue which class/race to pick, all i know is i want to be alliance. I like to use magic and a physical weapon and like to be able to give a lot of damage. Which would you recommend?

+1 for Pally, I would have suggested Hunter (My Main char is one) but of course they dont do swords. But Hunters are great fun, especially with you pet, but tbh I would try each alliance race and class if you can or somthing like that, see which race starting area you like best, then pick which class you had most fun with from there.

Have fun! :D

It's very difficult with the 10 day trial to get a proper idea of what the classes are like, you won't be doing heavy damage with the paladin to start with but leveling up to 20 should give you an idea of what the class is like. I think its also one of the easiest classes to solo with when leveling as they can take a lot of damage and heal themselves.

Depending on how quick you are its worth trying a few different classes and seeing which you like the most as you will find the playing styles vary greatly.

The Hunter class uses magic to support its arrow firing and hamper its enemies, so no fire, it basically uses magic for more powerfull attacks and slowing down the enemy. They cant take much damage themselves but they have pets which can either be used to take lots of damage or cause it, the idea is for the enemy to focus on your pet, so you can cause lots of damage to them without them attacking you.

do hunters have magic like fire?
No,

Basically hunters are Bowmen, but with a pet, they can use traps to give a disadvantage to there enemy's and use spells to give power to each shot fired with there bow and they control there pet to attack enemy's, but you don't get your pet straight away, when you reach level 10, you must go on a quest to acquire one, and you can tame a wide range of beasts to be your companion.

edit, there may be some Hunter spells that use fire but I cant remember, i havent played in a while, Hunters generally use nature spells and arcane magic.

I quit about a year and a half ago and I loved playing my Mage, I'd recommend that over anything. Very fun class to play and Hardly ever got bored playing one in PvP.

If you want to have a big sword and use spells it has to be a Paladin. If you just want a big sword you can choose a Warrior, small swords rogue or shaman. If you want to shoot fireballs choose a warlock or mage (depending on whether you want a pet and like the colour black), or even a priest.

Druids are the most versatile of all classes, being able to play in any of the 4 styles, but alas, you cannot have a big sword with a Druid :\

+1 to shamman a lot of fun you get to duel wield axes and maces at later levels if you spec for it, so swords i'm afraid. You get healing spells which are very useful in keep your self alive.

Shammans have shock spells which are instant so ideal for using when you are in combat.

You get lightning spells which have a cast time like a mage or warlock. At later levels you get a lava spell which when used in the right way deals a stupid amount of damage.

I find that a paladin doesn't do a lot of damage in early levels where a shamman does and continues to do so.

I'd have Shaman.

Far more diverse in terms of what weapons they can use (anything except swords, polearms, wands, and bows), and have an amazing amount of spells.

Also they can heal, resurrect, they have a travel form at level 20, and TOTEMS!

In my opinion, the Paladin is the most boring class ever invented. It's just so slow to do anything really, the Shaman is a much more immersive class.

could make a deathknight to see higher leverl play and be pretty decent geared to start, seeing as you only have 10 days. but dont know if you can make a dk on the trial... hummm

u need to have a lvl55 to unlock a DK i think.

Also the make lvl u can get on trail is 20 i think :D

I'd go for a paladin, if you like spells and swords it's the only starter class that offers both. Death knights also have spells and swords, but you need to have a level 55 character to make one.

I have only played a Warrior and a Shaman so far, to near lvl.17 and Lvl.54, respectively. The Shaman is certainly the much more enjoyable class of those two. As mentioned can heal themselves, self resurrect, use totems and enjoy the ghost wolf (+40%) travel form from Lvl.20. The starting area is reasonably enjoyable too.

I have a few characters. A Human Warrior (least favourite), Blood Elf Warlock (second favourite) and a Draenei Hunter (favourite). Hunters are brilliant imo though I do enjoy warlock a lot.

Its all personal preference as to what class you will prefer.

Back in the day when i was playing i started off with a rogue, couldnt really complain. Its very boring in raids but i think most classes find that. I also levelled a warrior to 60, a shaman to 60 a warlock to 47 a mage to 30 or so and a hunter to 42 i think

For me from most to least enjoyable it went like this
Warrior: Involving class to play in instances, if a little stunted in terms of what they can do at lower levels. Excellent grinding class if specced right later on
Rogue: Good damage dealer and grinder
Shaman: Good to play as a hybrid role if thats your thing. Grinding doesnt compare to that of rogue or warrior though
Mage
Warlock
Hunter: Boring, just doesnt feel engaging

I always was more of a up close and personal player.......

Try paladin if you wish but from what i remember the combat wasnt too engaging when i tried it, magic is overrated but its nice playing as a support class in groups

just pick the one you think sounds the best. that way you wont get bored half way through and change class/race. Blizzard tries to balance out every class so there shouldnt be any better class out there.
But obviously you should be Alliance
