Hey

I bought WoW a few days ago and am wondering how strict are Blizz on the account sharing. Of course its breaking the rules and such but say if my mate logs in to do something on the account would blizz pick up on it and take action or?

anyone had any knowledge on this

cheers

a couple of years ago i used to share an account with a friend at college, never had any problems at all.

each of us had different characters, but we just took it in turns on raiding nights etc..

this was when neither of us had jobs so couldn't afford an account each ^^
mummy and daddy wouldn't pay like most lol!

Theres not really a whole deal they can do definitively speaking. For all they know it could be that the person doesnt have a static IP and their IP changes regularly, it could be that the person plays both at home and at work hence the differences and so on.

Ultimately unless the person specifically blabs that they are sharing an account theres always an "alternative" explanation.

They can't be "strict" if they don't know.

But if you both try to login at the same time several times from different PC's that kind of thing, or otherwise learn, then they'll like ban you.

Technically against the rules but I know people who do it (brothers) you can get banned for it but unless you are logging in all the time from IPs from differing continents I doubt blizz would even realise

Ok thanks so just don't try to log on at the same time.

my mate lives a couple of hours away still so, should be fine :)

I expect you'll be fine. Might be a daft question though, but why not get your mate to get his own account, at least that way you would have the added bonus of being able to play together too, everything is more fun with friends as they say :D

Can pretty much guarantee you'll never have a problem.

The only issues with account sharing come about from the other person robbing you, but this isn't an issue with actual friends.

He has 3 level 80s. And his account is active so ;)

He would only go on like if I wanted something doing or whatever

Oh ! He already has his own account, you're getting him to level your characters up? Sorry I misinterpreted , I thought he was sharing as he didnt have his own account.

Blizzard are watching always watching! The OP was a trap so everyone here would admit they account shared and then blizzard will shut all your accounts!

I may or may not have let my friend use mine a few times. It's fine as already said.

Well im at school and he's finished now so, a bit of levelling. Places i need to go to and i have to walk long distances to get to.
Stuff like that - he went and started my talent tree (only level 15 on my lock) and went and got first aid etc

Damn you got me :(
I will require all of your user names and passwords though ;)

It's fine do it. a lot of people I know share accounts. Only problem being, do you really want to put so much effort into a character when one of your dozy mates might get phished/keylogged? I'd rather be the one to blame.

Well of course there is 'the secret question' though i can't remember what the Q even was! I know you can't change it though.

Though he does download a tonne, but movies are generally 'safe' so. Ill tell him to keep scanning his pc!

And i keep reading about these things what you buy from blizz and they do something lol. Authenticator?

Also my friend is a member of this forum ;)

Its fine they don't mind, they actually have a system set up so at a later date one of you can buy another account and transfer their chars to it, my mate and his fiancée did this

Shared account with rl friends where I live and one old friend I've known for 10 years in Denmark, never been a problem in a game or MMO ever.
Doesn't mean they haven't caught people before though, but you'd have to be doing something silly.

i am pretty sure you will never have a problem. I have known people sharing accounts on occasion within guild for raiding emergencies. Technically it is against the rules but i think blizz would only mind if there are loads of complaints, and the only time i remeber hearing of issues were ages ago before arenas when 2 people were account sharing so they could honour farm 24/7 which blizz took a dim view on.

So yeah i doubt you would have problems
