Basic story - i'm permanently moving to the US in a few months time and are in two minds over what to do about WoW.

I'm in the OcUK guild on shattered halls, although i'm just a casual and don't do any raiding, however it's a really good guild and provides me the opportunity to play and obtain content (e.g. heroics, new guild perks and loot) that i never would get otherwise.

I have some friends is the US who play casually and have offered to use Recruit a Friend to level me up to 85 as soon as possible, however i wouldn't be in a guild and would have to abandon my account here.

Con's
- have to buy all 4 games again
- lose 4 years worth of character progression
- don't really want to run another identikit shaman through 1-85 (already done this twice)

Pro's
- US to EU server might be lagtastic
- Better social gaming as it's with good friends

I'm a little bit concerned about the RAF process, especially the requirement that to get the 300% XP you need to be grouped and within 100 yards of your mentor, can i just get them to log in and /follow me around or will they have to actually play the 1-60 game again?

Thanks all.

If you're only on EU casually then I wouldn't worry about moving too much. Even casual guilds will be level 7+ by now, so you'll still get perks on a new server once you have a guild (can't you join your US friends?). Also heroics don't really need a fixed group, randoms manage just fine, especially as blizz like to gradually nerf content to allow more people at end game.

Maybe once you get to the US try the EU servers for lag before you decide anything, or if you can afford it just keep both EU and US accounts active until you have a definate choice. Great thing about mmo's is your account and achievements will always be there to go back to if you wanted.

Personally I'd go start again with your US friends, as you say they're better friends. It's the best time as cata reformed all the 0-60 content to make it easier/more fun, and it's not been out long so you can catch up on the first tier easily. Don't forget a lot of WoW "progression" is pretty hollow, all the old loot is useless in cata, so all you have is achievements which are just e-peen, everything else is easy to catch up on.

I would think the biggest factor in the decision will be the question of time difference. If your EU friends tend to play at say 7pm-10pm EU time, are you going to be able to join them at 1pm-4pm US time. If not then you might end up playing alone which isnt going to be much fun, if you are able to log in during those times then all is good.

As far as I'm aware you can play the EU servers with yoru curreent game from the US. You just alter the WTF file. I used to play on Arathor US from England. The latency was slightly higher, but aside from the time difference there was no probs.

id use it to stop playing MMOs personally. Have you considered that?

OP We have a few people in our guild that play EU servers from the US, they haven't ever had any issues with latency, just the time zone for some raids etc. Can't see it being a problem if thats the way you go.

That's a good idea about keeping both going for a while and seeing how it goes, it's two subs but i pay in 3 month blocks anyway so there's going to be an overlap.

I don't think my friends in the US are in a guild, it's a couple and a few of their friends who group together...shouldn't be hard to find a casual guild though i imagine.

Don't see any need for that, i like to play a little after work and family considerations are taken care of, i might play WoW, watch tv with the wife or read a book, it's not an all consuming habit for me, just a game i enjoy.

Quick point, you wouldn't necessarily lose your characters as you can transfer them across accounts can't you? (£15 a time though)

This is a Dilemma? lol.

Just buy the game again and start a new character. No real loss

It really is! bit sad i know :D

Most of my other decisions are easy...

Electricals mostly won't work - scrap
Baby gear doesn't have the right US safety sticker - scrap
Furniture cheaper to buy again than ship - scrap

WoW is one of the few things i can actually take with me :p
