WoW error

I decided to be hideous and make a return to this game for a while, or so i thought. I've made three attempts to do fresh installs all resulting in failure. The current error is 'Failed to apply patch. Please try later' Now i know you're thinking GOOGLE dammit but yes i have used that resource to the max. Apparently the problem is with vista access rights....yet im running on XP Pro, i've tried the fix which is basically just to run as adminstrator and as im currently on as adminstrator, i didnt expect much to happen.

So anyone have any ideas for getting around this? Tried patching without the downloader and just getting the files seperately but then i got 'Game version not recognised' so it seems thats not an option. WoW forums appear to be down for maintenance so it seems i've timed my comeback perfectly :(
 
I recently reinstalled due to reinstalling Vista, I found it was a lot quicker to install from the 5 discs and then manually download the updates themselves.. not teaching you to suck eggs but they are the right/correct gb patches?

Are there any errors in your Event Viewer to help?
 
Yup all the patches are definately correct ones. Might give these patches another blast but my word i hate installing 8 discs everytime....it takes a while.

Thats the fix they put up for my error. Yet as i said im running windows XP Pro, and although i tried that fix anyway, it did nothing to help my situation.
