Not really a laptop themed question but is a SSD a good way of improving system performance.
As well a the prospects of buying a decent laptop at the end of the year im also thinking of upgrading my current Acer desktop machine a little to make it a bit more beefy.
I was thinking of swapping out the standard 300GB HDD and putting in at least 250gb SSD for OS, Applications etc then using my server as main storage.
Will probably stick in another gig of RAM to making it 4gb in total!!
Got a new laptop two days go. Went straight on the internet and bought a M4 120GB for it. Pulled out the build in 700GB hard drive and threw in the SSD. Improvement is just amazing.
(Also i'm used to the SSD in my desktop so every computer that doesn't have one feels really slow! Unfortunately its something that will happen to you and your laptop now )
The thing is once the Windows 8 devices get launched fingers crossed that they pull mechanical drives and from now on only manufactures put SSD drives in them.
Maybe it's time for the half decent devices since the price isn't too bad now.
SSDs make laptops usable again. I'm now using mine more than my desktop (that has its own faster ssd).
i3 +SSD > i7 +mechanical
128mb slow previous gen SSDs are roughly the same price now as a 500mb laptop drive. Browsing files via wifi on your network drive is roughly the same speed as 5400 2.5 mechanical so its not like you are compromising anything.
