I was having a quick look around on ebay at projectors and things and came across this interesting item… http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/150-DIY-HOME-...735311424QQcategoryZ22610QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

It promises to make any tv into a 150” screen…

The auction includes a lens and plans for making what, according to the auctions claims, can only be described as an amazing piece of kit. From a quick look at their website it looks like you have to build a box to house your tv and then mount the lense at the front of the box so it can project the picture on to your screen, be that a wall or a pulled out white sheet….

All for the bargain price of £1.95 plus £2.49 postage.

Now of course this sounds too good to be true… and as we all know that normally means it isn’t true. Has anyone ever really purchased one of these and found it to be as amazing as it is promised to be…..???

How do people get away with selling such nonesense things (or have I stumbled across something truely amazing...;o)

LOL, i truely cannot believe these things are still for sale, people must genuinely think "omg, all these people who have spent thousands on real projectors must just not have seen this"

You have to wonder how people do not question the fact that a DV CRT (which is needed for this build) is about a kajillion times dimmer than a projection CRT. :p

This info has been around for years and can be found for free on the net.

I figured as much so did a very quick search on it and found the info and some sample pics.... almost needless to say they were dire. How can people be so daft as to think this will be any good. Why would people spend hundreds or thousands on projectors etc when they could have just spent £5 on this if it was any good.

If you want a ghetto projector consider a laptop panel and an old overhead projector

Yeah, some people go to the trouble of asking about it on message boards.

Jesus you can see that is lame just by the main image hes used, I mean who would use a half haked women that has absolutly nothing to do with that hes selling.

You can make some pretty damn good projectors out of a TFT panel stripped down to glass and an OHP with a good fresnel lens. Not as cheap as just a fresnel lens and a cardboard box or whatever the link describes but far better results.

You don't even need a Fresnel if you use an OHP

ah i c.. isn't there one in the OHP arm/head with a mirror?

Theres usually one coupled with a mirror in top illuminated OHPs which use it to reflect light back up but I think the focus lens is standard ground optics, someone may prove me wrong. On bottom illumimated ones I don't think they have one at all
