I've just downloaded the free version of WoW (I'm thinking about getting the full version soon) and am wondering if there's an international server and how do I go about getting on it. I have a lot of friends online who are either in the US or Canada and I always tend to play from around 10 o'clock at night onwards when most people on the UK server will be tucked up in bed, lol!

Nope, you can only play on the EU Realms, unless you select the US ones (Requires altering some files iirc)

Wouldn't recommend it though :p

To play on US servers you need to get hold of a US version of WoW.exe and you need to change the realmlist.wtf.

Pings are quite high, around 250+ when connecting to America, but also remember the time zone, you'll be playing when there asleep etc.

I got an american friend who plays EU version. Raiding time is like mid-day for her lol.

How did she do it, do you know? Did she buy the EU version?

I play between 10pm and around 4-5am so players in the US will be up and playing at the same time.

I cant speak for all eu realms, but mine (Stormscale) tends to have a lot of people playing into the night as well. The realm is very populated during the day however.

I'm guessing purchase the European version of the game online. Subscribe using a credit card and change the realmlist.wtf (or a similar text file) to the European servers rather than the Yank ones.

I have used both US and Eu versions.

I played US first and I had to buy the US version to get a key to create an account and play on their servers there. This also involved Lieing about my address as it would only accept US or Australian addresses. Your own address with postcode 90210 used to work, it did not matter if the billing address of the ccard matched this. (this was several years ago they might have made it slightly more secure now)

To play on Eu version I had to buy a EU version of the game to get the key to create an account

I currently play on the US servers, after importing a copy of battlechest. I didn't need to lie about my address, mine comes up as my current address in my account.

I play on the US servers also, currently on Kil'Jaeden.

Simply downloaded the US demo from http://www.worldofwarcraft.com and then used my credit card to upgrade the account. Done this a total of 3 times now in the past couple of years.

Runs fine, you only need to edit realm lists and patch etc if going from the EU client to the US client.

I ping anywhere from 160 to 280 range. With the server and my friends being Pacific coast based (-8hours) if I get up at 0600 I can log on and raid :P

Hope that helps :)

[edit] And to add to what Ade74 was saying. They've changed their system now with regards to address' etc, when the game launched and for about the first 9-12 months you had to put in a different address, happy to say this is no longer the case.
