Hi
I just got WoW.
Not really too impressed ... doesn't really seem to be much of an aim to it.

But anyway
What is the difference between the RP modes and non RP modes?

I've read what it says on the official site, but what are the actual real differences? And what does it mean by playing in character (or whatever) ... how could you not? :S

Thanks

i think what you mean is, Role playing servers

There are three types of servers.

PvP ( horde and alliance can attack each other at any time , bar 1 or 2 areas)
RP ( Every pretends that they live in wow and they were born a dwarf or night elf)
RP PvP ( mixture of both)

Give it time, you'll get hooked like all the rest of us.

:D

Don't worry too much about the RP/Non-RP side, the only bit that really matters is PvP or PvE. Thats basically a choice between servers where other players can attack you or not.

What character, race and faction have you chosen btw? Also what server?

I'm on Azjol-Nerub.

J.

A RP server is basically for people who want to act out their characters, you character race will have a background in Warcraft lore and those players who RP choose to converse like they would do in the said lore. For instance, Dwarves type talk like a drunken Scotsman! Not all the time though, they often talk OOC (out of character) when they are raiding or whatever. They hold various roleplay events and storylines etc. Not my cup of tea but seems quite popular. Some people roll on the RP servers just because they seem more mature though.

The early levels can seem quite dull, get passed 20 and the fun begins, dont worry. :)

Myself and a few others rolled on a RP - PVP server just to get away from all the "leet kiddy" chat. We dont roll play as such but if you just watch what you say in /S then no ones going to know any different. Did go and watch a play once though, that was actually kind of fun. Its not all about the grinding!

In my experience, you get a few hardcore RP guilds on these servers and pretty much a general mix in the others.

RP server: Hail to thee population of Orgrimmar. I wouldst like to purchase the rare tome Foror's Compendium of Dragonslaying if any of thou doth has it. I wouldst compensate thee greatly.

;)

PvP Server : "Rofl MrX is a tard ninj0r!"
" OMG dnt party wiht him the n00b!"

RP Server : "People of Ironforge dismay! For MrX has stolen a most coveted treasure from the corpse of Onyxia, one that perhaps I myself could have found useful!"
"That is most disturbing! I will take note of this, he should not go unpunished."
"Indeed, perhaps ignoring him and pretendsing he didn't exist would be a wise choice."

PvP Server: *Bubbleboy waves at you*
"rofl, Bubbleboy, that's a good pally name! :D"

RP Server: *Bubbleboy waves at you*
12 people report to GM for inappropriate character name, Bubbleboy is deleted.

PvP server: "hey, I like your name, well done on getting it - "Drakki"!"
"Cool thanks!"

RP server: "Hey, I like your name, well done on getting it - Drakki"!"
"How do you know my name? Are you spying me? Begone foul rogue, lest i smite thee!"

I play on a RP PvP server and it's ace. There's not as much olde english style chat as you'd think and there's no annoying kids going "omg rouges are *** sux0r!!11"

I avoided RP-PVP servers as I found there were too many kids TRYING to roleplay who had no clue ala.

"LF3M to slay the vile Rend in UBRS - ONLY NEED DPS!"

It was pants tbh :p

never tried it... worth rolling a character on there?... i just dont fancy speaking like a complete artard all the time though... lol

Rather than starting a new thread i'll just ask a couple of wow q's here. ..

first - is it down for just me at the moment? Or down for everyone? I can login, but then it makes me select from a list of realms that don't exist...

Also, I found out about that fair(e) (dark moon i think its called) and that it only happens once a month or every 2 months or something like that. Are there any decent "events" coming up soon that I should visit?

I need to level up ... only lv 11.....

Something's wrong with your login there if the realms "don't exist" ?

Second, all the events are on the www.wow-europe.com website, go look and find some info :p

They usually have events for haloween, christmas etc, last year I remember everyone walking around as snowmen and throwing snowballs at each other :p. Not sure if it will happen again this year. Darkmoon Faire is an ongoing event though which is open for the first week of every month I think, there is various rewards for doing various mundane grinding tasks, although there is some nice 2 hour buffs which are available for free by the fortune teller.

Ah ok

I am still on the 10 day trial. I downloaded the game (took forever!) so don't have anything from any shop so far.

If i want to continue, what is the best (and cheapest) way to carry on?
Can i pay for a 30/60 day extension online?

thanks
