WoW newbie question - What exactly is a raid?

A raid is simply a large amount of people (20-40), either doing group PvP or PvE end game instances. In end game instances fights become very difficult. Look up the Curse gaming BWL video for a good example of a raid :)

Its an incredibly boring large-scale instance where 20-40 people waste hours of their lives for "phat lewt" off monsters. Only to repeat themselves week in, week out in order to master the tactics in order to kill the bosses that reside there.

Bit of a cynical discription there - but I'm afraid thats how it is.

We've been doing MC for months now, and after the 50th time of doing identical runs with identical monsters in identical spots with identical tactics, it begins to wear you down.

Wear you down? Molten Core runs was the reason my guild split :(

You are correct sir... and that is why raiding truly eats you from the inside and leaves you hollow inside.

It also buys you the undying loyalty to your guild because having spent twenty runs where you get nothing but DKP, you don't wanna blow it all by leaving for another guild.

ever though of trying another instance? :D

They do ZG aswell, which is even worse. But you can't do BWL until you've mastered MC, then you need to master BWL before AQ and then Naxx.

Of course, its all pointless now, because when BC comes out, MC and BWL will be rendered mostly useless as the level 70 quest items will be as good or better than anything that drops from there, and Naxx and AQ will be a walkover as everyone will be level 70

Pretty much as title.... Is it when a massive bunch of you go into enemy territory and open a can of woop ass?

A raid is a group of more than 5 players in the same team.

Std groups is 5 players, anymore than that then you need to join additional groups to yours. This creates a raid

Just what i was wondering !

Endgame raids with 40 people can ofc be incredibly fun if you're in a good guild with people you know /get on with / njoy talking to etc.

We've just gained a bunch of new people in my guild on Draenor and its good re-learning a few bosses with people who've not done them and getting to know some other people.

What side/guild you in?

slightly off topic but not worth starting a new thread:

Grey Items? are they items that need identifying? and if so, how do you identify them?

I started in a new "casual" guild - its actually a guild alliance, where you can do end-game raids without leaving your own guild. It's like a guild of guilds, because the guild I'm in is all my real-life mates, and we didn't want to lose our identity.

Because of this, we get people coming and going a lot, many new inexperienced people...so it can be hard work.
