Right, as you can tell from my sig, i play WOW (a lot) and have never tryed Guild Wars, though i have heard good things about it. So in your professional opinions :) which is better?

WoW is good cause its open all the time in and out of cities.

Guild Wars is not. The only time you get to meet up with people ingame is in the cities and towns. Outside of it, the best way to describe it is a constant instance like in WoW. Unless your in a team, you wont meet anyone along the way. Its just you and the enemies.

I personally prefer WoW cause its a lot bigger and i find there is more things to do in it. Never played GW for a great length of time, but i found it boring if your not a in guild or group.

on the other hand, I like Guild Wars, for pretty much the same reason, the fact that you know that when you go chasing after that monster that 'might' drop the item that you want, it will be there.

I've played a lot of MMO's over the years, and honestly.. the instanced playfields, is a refreshing change

Unless all you like doing is grinding, then WoW is for you. If don't mind grinding, but also want to play a story-driven RPG too, then Guild Wars is there.

It's quite simple really.

Ignore the trolls, they thrive on threads like this.

Having played WoW, and from talking to my friends about GW, I would have to say that WoW is probably the best, if you don't mind the payments.

I've never really got into WOW, despite trying on a number of occassions.

I found the GW community to be more friendly/helpful, WOW has always seemed to be filled with idiots or stuck up people who look down on anyone just starting out. I'd personally recommend Lord of the Rings Online, good story, brilliant setting, looks and sounds lush and the people I've met and worked with are generally pretty cool.

i prefered GW over wow, wow never grabbed me and the no subs of gw you can't lose really can you?

skip factions though as the other chapters are far better .

Seconded, really enjoying LoTRO :)

GW just didn't feel like a proper MMO to me, i tried getting into it on a number of occasions but it's somewhat lacking. As to the maturity of the people playing i found there was a proportionate number of idiots in both games.

I vote for WoW, even though I hate it, I just hate Guild Wars even more. Just my personal opinion.

I played Guild Wars constantly in an active guild for about 6 months. It was great fun, we all got several characters right through the prophesies campaign, on team-speak for hours each night questing etc. However the game has a definitive plot and ending, unlike MMOs like WoW, and unless you like PvP there's not much to do other than the few veteran zones once you finish the main campaign story. It's more like a cooperative single player RPG than an MMO. WoW has a lot more depth but no real plot progression. I now play WoW a lot more often and haven't touched Guild Wars in ages as there's nothing to do really.

It is true that guild wars has an end, however its for that reason that i prefer it. Ok eventually you will stop playing, but prophecies alone will take 40+ hours just to complete the storyline, then you have sidequests and endgame 'elite' dungeons to deal with. Even if you do all that there is still factions, nightfall and eye of the north to complete. In total it took my warrior character around 200 hours to complete each campaign and do a couple of the elite dungeons - i've still got loads of eye of the north dungeons to do and the deep (which is considered one of the hardest dungeons of em all).

If you want a fantastic coop RPG experience, get guildwars, if you want a multiplayer MMO, get wow.

Oh and guildwars has no monthly fee.

What I enjoy about GW is that you go into a city, town or outpost and it is usually heaving with people, which I feel adds a sense of realism and community as opposed to wandering around the cities in WoW where people are sparse nowadays.

I would suggest trying both - as they do have some very fundamental differences which make them almost completely different games to play.

I've got a question about guildwars, I know there are different armour/weapon set, but do they all look the same? I've been in varoius places but everyone always seems to be wearing 1 or 2 different armour sets
