WOW Problem :(

Hey guys.

Not sure if this is even in the right section, but here goes.

Basically, my WOW install seems to have screwed up :( When loaded, usually in the 1st minute or two, my PC will freeze. Can't do anything other than use the reset button to restart.

Have reinstalled the game from a new install off the website (7.5GB download!)

Still does the same thing :(

Everything else in Windows works as intended.

The only thing that has changed is that I replaced my case, HSF, PSU, along with addng a new hard drive.

The only other thing is that i converted my system from IDE to AHCI.

Anyone got any ideas other than reinstalling Windows? Will probably end up there, but it is a right pain to do.

Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Event viewer doesn't show anything since Windows crashed so suddenly.

PSU is an OCZ 600w for my Q8200 and GTX260, so I don't think it is that.

Using Core Temp for cpu temps and it never went above 55C.

Ran Prime95 and 3dmark06 to stress it and it did ok with those, so I am at a bit of a loss as to why it is only WOW that seems to object?

Errors folder is empty and the repair tool finds nothing.

It is the strangest thing. Very annoying too.

Thanks for the suggetions so far.

More please :)

Did you upgrade your drivers? Including motherboard, sound, graphics as a minimum?

If you've made changes from IDE to AHCI did you reinstall Windows (Windows can throw a major strop when you do this - infact HP media normally only installs in IDE mode - but thats a different story!)

If you didn't reinstall I'd do that mainly as you're wasting time troubleshooting this and it's easier to reinstall.

M.

I think you may be right. Looks like a Windows reinstall for me then. :(

The really annoying thing is that my current Windows seems to have no other problems whatsoever except for WOW. Just a shame to delete a perfectly good install for just this one problem.

Although I admit it is a big problem! :)

This is driving me mad!

Reinstalled Windows and it still crashes!

Guess that just leaves hardware faults then. :(

Only thing I have added recently which I think could cause the error is the new PSU. Doubt a new hard drive that the game isn't even installed on would have anything to do with it.

Guess I need to get another PSU to test with?

Yep, ran Memtest all night and it came back with 0 errors.

Not sure what SP is?

And yes, it does sound like it is buggered :(

Question is, how do I unbugger it? :)

I had a buggered xp install which would BSOD randomly on ANY 3d game. No matter how much troubleshooting, removing and reinstalling drivers I did, and other stuff, it wouldn't go away. In the end I just installed Vista x64 and kept xp as dualboot but I haven't booted into it for over a year. Was fine ever since.

If only it were that simple. I actually didn't just reinstall Xp, but am now running 7 64bit as well. :)

On a lighter note:
It's your pc telling you to stop playing WoW, listen to it and:

:D

My PC may be telling what to do, but I am still of the opinion it should be the other way round! :)

Trox, I thought the same thing, which is why I copied it to another hard drive to test. Same result. :(

VeNT, I tried Prime95, is that not enough?

As for voltage, can I not use CPU-Z to tell me?

According to CPU-Z, my current Core voltage is 1.120v. That is right for a Q8200, isn't it?

I agree that a PSU test is in order. Will have to see if I can aquire one to test with.

Thanks both of you.

Ok, I am a little embarrassed now. :o

All my voltages are within range, just for the record. :)

Basically, what I did was remove my graphics card and re-seat it along with removing the power connectors and doing the same.

Day and a half later and WOW seems to be playing properly.

Well, I did take my card out to change cases, so I guess it didn't go back in correctly.

What was confusing me is that everything else, including 3dmark, was having no problems.

Fingers crossed that the problem is solved now.

Anyway, thanks to everyone for their help and especially you VeNT for sticking with it.
