Just wondering what people play. I am coming back to the game and I have a 70 mage that I am going to transfer. I have always been on PvP servers.... but with the decline of world PvP and the ganking problems when just trying to grind or quest I wondered what you guys that play prefer and why...

If you have a level 70 already I cant see why on earth you would want to move it to pve.
I played both and pve even though it was easier I found annoying, one example was grinding ghosts in winterspring. The amount of bots was a joke and there was nothing you could do about it, at least pvp you can kill them.
Having played both I found pve sterile. Going to BRM seemed boring on a pve server. As you can see I quit before tbc. But I wouldnt go pve again.
And not having to look over your shoulder removed the adrenaline factor for me.

Have to disagree, go for a PvP server.. yes levelling can be harder with ganking etc however I believe it will make you a better player. Also you have the option to Migrate your character from a PVP server to a PVE server if you do not like it later on but you can NOT migrate from a PVE server to a PVP server...
I played on a PvP server from release until maybe 9 months back when I rolled up some new characters on a PvE server. I've got a couple of level 70s on a PvE server now and don't regret it one little bit. Being able to pick and choose when I want to fight suits me down to the ground.
