Never played before but currently using the free trial and considering buying the game. I notice there's 2 expansion packs out for it. Do I need to play my way through the original and then each pack in turn or do the expansions compliment the original?

you'd need to go original/burning crusade/wrath.

though both the packs add a little bit to the original. 1 new class to each faction, and 2 new professions

If you plan on being Draenei, Blood Elf, or doing any of the new professions you'll need the corresponding addon pack from the beginning.

Otherwise just start with standard WoW.

Thanks guys. The expansions are cheap enough so if I decide to take the plunge I'll get them at the same time then.

I'd get the battle chest, it's only a tenner if you know where to look.

Then it's just WotLK, which can also be had pretty cheap.

Don't suppose you could point me in the direction of the £10 battle chest? I can't see it that cheap anywhere.

Was in one of my local high street game stockists.

Although on said site the price is different, so i'm not sure what the deal is. Have you tried taking a wander down your high street?

By the time I add on parking charges and petrol to get there it'll probably work out to the same price that some sites are selling it for.

Well i advise just to play your way through the original WoW first, when your at 60, install the burning crusade and level to 70 and when your at 70 the same thing but with Wrath of the lich king, i did it like this and you see a lot more of the game and meet a lot more people and get a lot of gold too :)

Buy them now, DF1986 is not speaking coherantly.

As others have said, you have access to all classes and profs if you just buy them now, there is no reason, social or otherwise, to buy them one by one.

Buy original and Burning Crusade asap at least, you don't really require wotlk until at least lvl55 (if you want to make a Death Knight) or lvl68 if not making Death Knight

Not having BC means you miss out on 2 complete races and certain class/faction choices (like no Paladin for Horde or Shaman for Alliance)

Not having wrath won't prevent you from taking up the Inscription profession while not having BC will stop you getting Jewelcrafting.

Ordered the battle chest and Lich King from the website of a high street store just under £33 for both with free shipping.

Now I know I'll need to upgrade my account. I assume I'll lose any progress made during the trial period?

Nope, your characters made before you add expansions don't change. So you can just carry on :)

Great, I'll carry on with the trial then until the boxed software arrives :) Didn't want to carry on and have to start all over again you see :)
