Wow! Retro Console Fun

Just purchased a dreamcast for £20, 3 controllers, 4 games (sonic1+2,tony hawks, virtual tennis)and VMU.

now this is the only retro console i have never owned since a kid. so what games do i have to get to get the full experience ? also got a SNES and reading up on the dreamcast you can play SNES games on there? graphics wise will the SNES games look better? or roughly the same ?

There's a big retro thread around here somewhere that will give you some pointers. But until you find it, go buy Shenmue 1 and 2.

EDIT: What type of games do you like? Also get a VGA box for it!

Shenmue is both the best and worst suggestion. You'll finish 2 and be gutted that 3 doesn't exist.

), same with Skies of Arcadia. Also get Rayman 2, Jet Set Radio, Toy Commander, Soul Calibur and the Resident Evil games.

Can anyone remember if the DC titles were region locked? I have a load of DC games, that were from the UK, but I'm in the USA now.

I'd say a nice CRT tv would be a start my dreamcast didn't look too good on my flatscreen. Gamewise:

Really? This game was a complete dog even when it was released. I would stay well clear of this if I'm honest. Can't really fault any of the other suggestions though.

The only thing about retro gaming is that nostalgia is a very powerful thing. Sadly I doubt that many older games hold up well today. Saying that I wouldn't get rid of my Dreamcast.

Excellent music tracks in both too!

I actually prefer MSR to the PGR series on the xbox. Dont know why really as PGR should be more polished with better car handling. I think its just because MSR is the original and the music tracks are so unforgetable.

It always amazes me how little people will sell a fantastic console like the Dreamcast for!

Pro Tip - find a decent RGB SCART CRT Portable TV for retro gaming as these older consoles look so much better on them

I think you'll be disappointed with the Dreamcast now.

The graphics are not as retro as the snes, and youve had a lot more consoles come after it which supersede the console graphics wise.
a lot of the games have released on the consoles after it, and not only that, but they look and play better!

Regardless, I CANNOT BELIEVE no one has mentioned one of the best games to ever grace the Dreamcast -

Resident Evil - Code Veronica X

The best version of this game is on the Dreamcast. It is so engrossing you will not come off it once you start it!

Its an awesome game. Great playability, Nice and long and entertaining. Play at night in the dark with surround and it will scare your pants off!
