WoW Rogue Spec

Fancy playing as a Rogue but i've only ever had 1 character and that is a Warrior. I'd like a good PvP and PvE build (dual-spec) as Google is giving me nothing.

Note that this will be up to the WOTLK/80, not Cataclysm.

i loved my mutilate spec but that was when 60 was max lvl lol

I've been told to go for Mutilate/Assassination (are both of these the same?) for PvP as apparently they're the best. Got some talent points that need spending but again i've no idea what i'm doing.

Help please!

That's wrong, you want to be Subtlety for pvp. Mutilate/Assassination (yes it's the same thing) for PVP.

Will you have twink items?

If so go Subt and 2 shot everything with Shadowstep > Ambush > Backstab

If you do NOT have twink items go Assassination/Mutilate as there is no requirement to be behind your targets (If you are not 2 shotting stuff you will be face stabbing them as Subt). Poisons are SUPPPPPER effective in Ass, it's also an exceptional PvP spec at a higher level.

A Subt bleed build is also very effective in PvP versus high armor targets.

I would say skip Combat, I've never much liked it.

TL;DR:

Subt - High, short term burst damage.
Ass - Sustainable, tight rotational damage which relies heavily on poisons but suffers little from high AC targets. Comes into it's own at higher levels with the talents to refresh poisons on Envenom finishers with additional Instant Poison procs.

End talent was vigor. Prep was for subtlety.

Oh and, when I quit, it was miles behind the other specs at endgame, aired too far towards utlity and only could hold it's own in low movement scenarios under perfect conditions.

combat. why stop at 80 tho?
sin chase is talking out of his back passage

rogues are up there with any class. mine does 26k dps, 30k burst.

I was going to suggest this too. There are much better places to ask about a WoW spec than a general gaming forum. Where lots of people don't play WoW.

I along with two guildies used to do it when world PvP was still quite active back at level 60. We used to wait stealthed along major paths lying in wait until someone rode past and triple ambush/backstab at the same time. Puts a whole new meaning to instagibbed.
I loved it when they just lay there without releasing, probably thinking "What the **** just happened..."

I miss those days. World PvP was great fun.
