WoW - Should i..?

Definatley dont get it. I recently quit permantly, having previously quit and started again. I have clocked over 1,400 hours of WoW on Xfire and I didnt have Xfire open all the time. Its amazing how much free time I have now! :D

. It's even worse if you play with IRL friends as it'll be all you talk about and of course you end up extreme competition with them levels wise.

That cant be that valid, all my friends talk about Football and as soon as i start talking about a great game i just played i get ridiculed. Since i dont get in contact with them any more i made better friends at college.

But personnally Warcraft isnt as addictive since the expansion, but still addictive when you start. i managed to let my self free from it by promising myself to pass my exams.

It can get addictive so just watch for the signs of making excuses to stay at home instead of going out with friends. There's a new DVD pack that costs about £20 released recently ("Battle Chest") so installation isn't as much of a pain. It contains WoW/TBC expansion and a couple of strategy guides.

Yes, get it. It's a fantastic game and eats up your spare time like nothing else. It won't be long before you're booking days off to play. :)

I started about May, and currently have a lvl 60 priest and a lvl 40 warrior. The social aspect of the game is what makes it addictive. You'll probably be confused as to why people get so addicted... until you meet some friends and get a good group together to instance with.

People don't keep playing Warcraft because it is 'addictive' or 'gaming crack', they play it because it is a brilliant game and one of the most polished and well support MMOs you can play.

Sure, it's not as deep as some and doesn't offer the progression other than gear that many do, but it is perfectly balanced right the way through. There are better games in the world, but World of Warcraft is one of the most significant in recent times and as a gamer you should definatly try it out while it's still going strong.

Very good game as peps have said,, so good that IT WILL consume your life. and that is comming for a recovering WOW addict :D :D

What makes it so addictive is getting your ass kicked in pvp ( ganked ) by some one a higher level than you ( = better gear etc. ) so that makes you want to just lvl up a few more lvl's so you can go and kick his butt :D :D ,, and so on,, and before u know it you will be L70 ,,, and by the time u get L70 the new patch will be released and thus the new grind to Lvl 80 :P ,, screww bliZZ :P

AVOID AT ALL COSTS ^^

I'd say No but not on the grounds of addiction just on the grounds its an over simplified MMO designed to appeal to the masses requireing little more than time to master rather than any actual skills for 99% of players.

The other 1% are some of the most annoying elitest jerks you will ever meet, who belive that having Tx+1 armour is more important than knowing the touch of a woman.

The sort of people who will **** you off for having to do your day job and pay the bills rather than raid with them till 4am on a work night. Or rushing to see a relative taken into hospital means you not "committed enough to the cause"

ITS PIXELS AND CODE!!!! some things are more important (actaully most things are more important)

Also playing WoW on a 8800GTX should be a crime, Intel onboard Gcard on our work pool laptops can play wow.

Sure thing buddy, keep telling yourself that :)

WoW is all about grinding, like every MMO that's ever existed in one shape or form. Grinding up to max level, then grinding other things to get equipment that's slightly better than what you already have. And when you get this amazing equipment after a million hours of playtime, an expansion comes out that raises the max level you can attain on your character by a few levels, and introduces some more equipment that - you've guessed it - is the new "thing to have". Repeat ad infinitum.

WoW is exactly like crack, and Blizzard are the dealers. They give you just enough to get by, and remind you often how much better things would be if you spent more time playing, dangling rewards and "uberz" in front of your face constantly so you always have that "one more hit" feeling.

The people who say that it isn't an addiction are usually the ones who can't admit to themselves that they can't go a day without logging on, for whatever reason.

I guess there is a point... I just dinged 70 and bar a few raids I have seen pretty much all the content I will see till the expansion. The fact that I have to run the same dugeons over and over, then do it again in Heroic mode to get gear good enough to tank the first instance in Outland, Karazan, fills me with foreboding....

Its a briliiant game, but if you want to see all the content(ie high end instances)you have to be in a pretty good guild. I was in a great guild and we had a real laugh on ts, but to be in a good guild you need to put lots of hours into the game, this is where it starts to eat into your social life. Not only do you have to attend a lot of raids, you also find that you have to grind for gold/mats etc.

I'm not an expert on the pvp/battlegrounds side of the game, but I think this is more drop in/drop out type of thing, but even then I think you have to put some real hours in to get decent equipment.

ive recently got back into it :(

now is the WORSE time to start, as i just made a priest which is now 36 (got several 70's), and this wednesday comes out the patch that basically lvls you up to 60 almost twice as fast, meaning twice the addiction. i rele cant help but not play this game.... its shambles to the name of my sli 8800 gtx rig..... to be playing it on this.... i feel like i should whip out the work acer laptop and play on that, will feel more at home with all the other players then.

Im looking to buy a new game and thinking of WoW.

I hear its quite addictive - should i take advantage of not being addicted to it now and not play? Or should i just play?

Decisions decisions.

If you can control yourself, then the simple answer is YES! YES play it!

I was a hardcore nolife WoWer, raiding end-game contents constantly for the past 2 years or so. Stopped playing a few months back and now planning to make a return...

Yes it is addictive, especially the social aspect. Anybody who says WoW is not addictive is probably someone who either doesn't like MMORPG or they've never experienced raiding. ;)

I think that someone starting to play it today might be underwhelmed, what with absolutely everyone saying it is addictive - you will become addicted.

Something like this is addictive when it takes you by surprise, not when you have the mindset and expectations from the offset.

What is it that so addictive about this game? Ive never even looked twice tbh, from the books cover it looks like a crap game with crap graphics??

what is peoples obsession with graphics? oh noes the game has **** graphics i must avoid it at all costs because surely it cant be any good with graphics like those.

What ever happened to gameplay and storylines being the most important features?

WoW is a good game but the problem with it is the time you have to put in to get the really good gear. If you can play a few hours here and there and be happy with that knowing you wont hit the raiding instances then give it a go.

The problem comes when you start raiding the 25man instances. Raids are normally 4 hours long and the top guilds wont usually take you unless you can do 3 raids a week minimum on average.

I would never recommend anyone plays this game who is at college / university. If you get hooked it will mess your grades up!

WoW is nearly 3 years old now, considering that, the graphics are not that bad.

Try the 10 day free trial, you wont see very much but it will give you an idea if you will like it or not.

If you're even slightly capable of becoming addicted to things/obsessed with things (think movies, tv series etc) then it will almost certainly hook you.

Doesn't really follow. I have the most un-addictive personality going, it was the worse thing I ever touched.

But honestly go on try it you'll love it ..........mmmmmmmuuuhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaa :D

No don't do it.

I played it for 3 years and then had an epiphany. I gain +10 intellect on my headpiece and found life again.

Wow is a great game, or at least it was until the expansion. The old 40 man raids were so epic and fun, such a great emphasis on teamwork and friendship etc. The expansion made it lose its appeal for me, almost completely.

You will get addicted.
