WoW - Sound channels. What do they do?

Hello guys.

Quick question, in WoW audio setting, there is a setting called sound channels and it's always set to low. I'm not sure what it controls. Is it sound quality or something?

I think it's to do with the amount of sounds it can play at once. I remember a similar setting in older games, and this is what it did.

I just set mine to as high as possible.

I can't hear any difference. On vista it will default to low on certain soundcards unless you run it in XP compatibility mode, On my Audigy2 ZS it did this, I recently got a Xonar D2X and it stays on max sound channels without compatibility mode

I run mine in XP mode using Vista and it's fine!
