I thought I would make a seperate thread so as to not clutter the main one...

To you experienced WOW players, what UI addons would you recommend for a new player? I'm a Rogue if that matters. A ready-made UI would be nice.

Have you used addons much before? I have quite a bit of fun playing around and testing them myself.

If you do, why not make your own custom UI?

In any event, Id recommend the following as a starting point:

SUF (Shadowed Unit Frames) - attractive and highly customisable unit frames, looks a lot nicer than the default unit frames.

Bartender4 - Totally customisable action bars - put your ability buttons anywhere you want on the screen, scale them to whaever size you like. You can even set buttons to hide during combat, and/or be fade out until you hover over them.

theres 2, Im sure there is plenty more you might like!

Tukui, pretty much as good as it gets for a UI. It currently has a nice little community built around it so if you need any help just hit up the forums.

Mods of the UI are available, I recommend "ElvUI" if you don't go with the standard Tukui.

My fave UI is Caith UI, not sure if it's still made though but I used it throughout my WOW span.

another vote for tukui, little bit more complicated to maintain than some but looks great

if you want something easy then try LUI (sets itself up and has gui options)

Never liked any of the "package" ui's, i tend to just download the addons seperately from curse (use the updater, very useful)
Ones I would recommend are:
AtlasLoot - Shows loot tables from bosses and pvp/faction rewards etc
Auctionator - Makes buying/selling on AH a lot easier (Auctioneer is also good but much more complex, you wont use half the stuff on it)
ClassIcons - Icons on portrait to quickly see what class someone is
Mapster - Map that doesnt take up the whole screen
OmniCC - puts numbers counting down on your abilities when theyre on cooldown
Quartz - Sexy cast bars
Recount - Shows your partys dps, whos done most damage etc
Selljunk - 1 click sell all grey items to vendor
Deadly Boss Mods - Tells you what to do on boss fights with big flashing reminders on screen

Best advice i have is look on http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/default.aspx
and check out the most popular ones and see if you like them.

Tuk UI or LUI if you really can't be bothered to make your own.

Making your own is always best though, always know what everything does, where it is and layed out perfectly the way you want, just try to have an idea before you start.

Essential addons for myself

Unitframes go for - Stuf/Pitbull/OuF or Xperl if you like its design
If you are a healer Grid (prefer grid2 but a bitch to keep updated as discontinued atm i think) + Clique
Action bars- Bartender/Dominos
Panels- If you like black panels or any panel in background use KGpanels.
Damage Meter- Recount/Skada
Threat Meter - Omen
Tracking buffs - SBF(satrinabuff frames)
Wanting to watch procs or diseases with sounds or big alerts on your screen get power auras, very very good for raiding.
Castbar - Quartz
Cooldown Bar - Fortexorcist (i think)
Boss mods - DBM for practicality, personally prefer DXE
Minimap - personally prefer pMinimap for simplicity.
Nameplates - Tiny plates with Cleanplates plugin.

Sorry for **** resolution but lazy and copied from screenshots thread, but thats the basics of my UI in those addons.

Caith UI is decent also.

Google LUI, I use this and it's fantastic. Few niggles here and there but it's better than anything I've seen.

I use this, which ive slightly modded to suit my healing style.

I used LUI for a while which is decent but i feel its not as good as Tukui...

That tukui admin is a big whinge. :p

Or who ever posted that article about priests.

Funny, trox I thought tukui wassn't to my style. :p

Do all UI's allow for you to target tank and assit through them, instead of manually pressing F all the time to target mob?
