WoW trial

Welcome to wowcrack. It's really that addictive. Keep a hold of your perspective on life, otherwise you'll be attacking midgets in the streets shouting "die gnome noob!!" :P

It is only addictive if you can't control yourself.

It is possible to be a casual player and not waste all of your time on it. You won't get the best gear, but who really cares.

Play at your own pace and enjoy.

how long should it normally take to get through the levels ? i.e. a week for level 10, 2 weeks to level 20 a month for level 30 etc

MW

sheesh 10 levels a day, im off work atm and i'm only doing 40k xp points a day and that does 1-2 levels at level 28

Follow a decent questing guide or just grind. You should be able to make level 40 in a weekend, depending on class of course.

I'd guess:

Warrior, Rogue, Druid 2-3 days to 40.
Mage, Warlock, Shaman, Hunter 3-4 days to 40.
Priest 5 days.
Paladin 5-6 days.

Of course this assumes you prepare properly before hand (potions, bandages, food, drink, buffs, and other consumables), so for a new account, add 1/2 days - but really it isn't that hard to learn how to grind, so join a server with friends if possible so they can foot you some gold for potions and armours as you level up.

i'm not following a guide but i've joined a guild and done some of the dungeon quests with them but mostly have been going solo.

Why would someone just starting the game want to rush their way to 70 and grind? When you start out, there's a lot of fun to be had doing quests and learning all the lore.

I think level 40 in a weekend is a bit unrealistic (i'm sure some have with help, but not achieveable for most) as you will have little or no rested xp not to mention serious sleep deprivation:)

ive been playing it for a good 6-8 hours a day for nearly 2 weeks and ive only made level 28. if i tried any harder i'd miss all the fun and it would be more of a task than a game.

what does grind mean ?

It usually means going to an area and repeatedly killing mobs in a small area to gain experience, or indeed any repetitive (probably unfun) activity to reach a goal. Used in sentences such as "grinding out a level", which is something you might do if you've got a log full of quests higher than you can comfortably do and you need to level up to do them - kill a couple of hundred mobs and you're sorted.

There's no need to grind anything at all when levelling from 1-70 these days. In the past there were occasional quest gaps which grinding was the quickest way to bridge.

i just wander the map killing anything i see, i tend to get most of my xp points exploring the map to complete quests. im quite sneaky when it comes to killing higher level opponents, i send in my pet cat to take the hits while i heal him and bombard them with arrows. being a night elf hunter ive got pretty week armour but can usually kill 2-3 levels above me.

Yeah, it was more just a generic figures for levelling an alt really. /shrug

I forget that there are still new people coming to the game.

yeah i'm n00b lol

when the server i was playing went down for maintenance i created another character and got to level 4 within about half an hour so i spose once you get the jist its easier.

That is true. WoW was my first and last MMORPG. It was an amazing experience for the first 45 lvls or so (cap was 60). After you realise it just a grind the game becomes boring.

But when i first started it was so exciting and new. So much fun.

That makes no sense, he said he was just starting out, and some of the numbers you gave were based on a new account .
