Hi guys

my gf plays WOW.

and im thinking of giving it a go.

i had an account before but would be happy to start a new account if it ment we could get the triple xp.

so how does triple xp work? what do you have to do to get it etc.

also if i already have a wow account, can i open another using the same email address or will it not like that?

thanks

Loki

Well I think you have to goto the wow page and actually invite the person to play via your account page, they then have to use the email link you send them to play, and then when they create an account you will get the xp bonus.

My gf created an account and we forgot to do this, thus, no triple xp :( but shes glad of that cause slower leveling = more time before she gets bored at highest level.

the best way to do it is to get the high level character to run the low level char on the invited account round dungeons.

When I levelled characters with my mates I ran them round LBRS and they got 1 levle per run pretty much, and one run took about half an hour.
You have to do the invite a friend thing in the account management page, and when levelling you have to have both characters in a party and within x yards of eachother.

so would she have to invite me, then stay on her lvl 80 rouge the whole time? that sounds rubbish for her.

i thought they would let her start a new char and lvl with me and both of us get triple xp as we lvl.

if she cant HAS to play her high lvl char then im just gonna be getting boosted through the whole game which seems lame.

All the answers for RAF are here - it pretty much covers any questions you might have regarding the process.
Note that you have to be grouped, within 100 yards and the mobs must be able to reward both players with XP in order to grant triple XP to both players. So both characters must be roughly the same level - you can get boosts, but you won't both gain XP at the same rate (or at all) - only the recruit account will get triple XP.

The other benefits are that the referee can grant levels to the referrer (1 level per 2 levels gained) - which can to be any character on the referrer's account (as long as they are on the same realm/faction as you have to group to do it). When I referred myself and sat in Ogrimaar dinging an alt, I got lots of "zong hax!" :D The other benefit is that if the referee subscribes for 2 months after the trial, you get a Zhevra mount

ah thank you that sounds better, we would both want to start new chars and play together so the 100 yards and close lvls would be totally fine.

i will check out that link when i get home, im pretty sure blizzard webbie will be blocked from office pc :)

thanks again

Yeah its only any good if you start new characters together. I got an invite from a friend who was L80 and I didnt get it as he was too high and selfishly didnt want to start another character.

Despite the boo boys of wow I am really enjoying it. I just got my first character to Northrend. Annoyed that I cant fly there though.

I am playing it casually so have a few different characters ranging from L10 to L69.

right time to derail my own thread.

if i install wow from the standard wow disc (which i brough with my old account which i wont now be using) and use my GF;s backe dup install to over write wow (negating the need for 10 million gb's worth of patch)

will it cause any problem with me using the trial account to get the tripple xp. also will i need to buy new copies of wow and Burning crusade to use when i upgrade the trial account or can this be done online?

i guess basically im asking if i do the tripple xp thing do i need to get new game disks or is there somthing i can do online to get it sorted?

You have to be within 5 levels (I think) of the RAF character for it to work aswell.

So if you have a level 80 character and want to power level a new one to 1, don't bother RAF'ing it.

might be easier for me to install of the disks then over write and let the install create the file paths and registry files.

im running vista and shes running xp so im not sure the default folders would be the same?

My last character was levelled with RaF.

It's very fast to 60, especially with the XP drop implemented a few months back.

Then it gets tedious again, as the huge grind starts in Outland/Northrend.

Actuallly, with all the installer isuues, usually better to copy an exisisting install in my experience!

It creates the registry entires when you run the game anyway.

ok this sounds good by me, im by no means a fan of installing the game from disc :)

so when i copy her WOW folder from XP. where do i need to paste it on my vista install.

is it just straight into the C drive? over does it have to be int he folder thats for none 64bit applications (sorry cant think of the name)

thanks

I don't think it matters where you copy the folder to. Just make sure you get everything, and then run the executable.

cool and if memory serves me all the wow files i need are just in the one folder?

happy days.

thanks v much all i think all the questions i so far have, have been answered :)

They dropped the XP requirements by 30% for Outland, so that's pretty trivial now as well. Northrend is the only "tough" level grind. But it's not particularly hard either :)

hi all

just wanted to say thanks to everyone who offered advise yesterday.

managed to copy over the whole wow install, and got my account set up.

im not proud owner of a lvl 10 mage :)

just waiting for my account to upgrade from trial to full (can take up to 72 hours apparently) then i will be able to get mail etc and start spending the Mrs's Gold :p
