Had the trial for a while now and it tells me theres only 2 days left. I want to buy it but I want to keep my char and just upgrade the account to a full but it's telling me in order to continue playing WoW I need to buy a retail copy and enter the cdkey, can I not just upgrade the account?.

So there is no other way other then buying the game at a store, so they have no online upgrade billing system or nothing? I don't see why I should have to buy a retail copy when I already have the game content on my PC I just wish to upgrade the account thats all.

Well the game content from trial is different compared to the real game as theres things you can and can't do. So you may have to install it via buying the game im not to sure. Although you'll need a cd-key anyway, so buying the game is a must. You can still carry on playing your char, just need to enter a legit bought cd-key and you get a free month of play and then have to start playing.
It's not really a big hassle in my opinion, WoW isn't that exspensive anymore. If you order it online, should be with you in a few days or you could always pop into a shop. Either way you gain a free months subcription and also if something happens ie. someone gets ahold of your account you always got your box/cd-key etc to prove it.
It would be better if you could purchase a key online, I don't know why they haven't done it.

Rang Blizzard this morning and they told me I need to buy retail but in America they can do a direct upgrade. I do not need to install it, the girl I spoke to said just put the key in and you get a month free plus all content unlocked. Went to town this morning could not find the game for less then 24.99 so I am going to order it online instead.
They keep the boxed copy thing over here because there was a server capacity issue when it first came out and they stopped selling the boxes for a few months until they'd put some more hardware in. I think it's easier for them to plan for extra servers and infrastructure if they know exactly how many boxes are around rather than how many DL's there's been.
