I've started using ubuntu as a daily os on my laptop to learn more about it. Problem is that I can't get wpa to work. I've looked around ubuntu.com and using google, and there seems to be about 100 methods of doing it that are all confusing the hell out of me, as a most of them don't explain what you're doing really, and seem to approach it from a multitude of angles.

Are there any simple guides out there?

The wireless card is working fine as it can connect to my network if I turn off encryption, so it is just enabling wpa i'm struggling with.

thanks for any help.

I have a similar sort of problem. I haven't managed to get it working (i was using the live cd). One thing you might wanna try is the Network Manager/Wizard application. It doesn't come installed as standard so you will have to install it yourself. It might make turning WPA on easier?

I've got it working now. I did a clean install of ubuntu, then once it loaded up, I went into the networking section on administration and disabled the wireless connection. Installed network-manager off the dvd and then rebooted and it picked the connection up fine.

Next problem is getting dvd playback enabled. Was tearing my hair out last night. Tried automatix, ubuntu wiki and various guides on google, but to no avail. Probably means I need another reinstall, as I've probably wrecked various things messing about.
