Wraith Prism copper contact patch

I have upgraded my cooler and I was surprised to see the large gaps in the contact patch between the heatpipes and pitted surface on the removed wraith prism. It's no wonder there is so much stock paste on these as it would be a poor contact surely with the regular amount of paste you would use? I was getting max 82 degrees with this running for 20 mins using Aida64 Extreme on a stock R7 3800X.

That is pretty bad and is an example of why I dislike direct contact coolers, at least they are using copper between the heatpipes unlike a fair few that use aluminium. You may pay a bit more for a cooler with a nickel coated solid copper base but you will be getting much better metal to metal contact so your cooling efficiency will be much better.

Thanks! That's my computer horror image for today. :D
Never new they were that bad, as I always use aftermarket cooling. Only makes me more determined to not use stock cooler. ;)
