Ever wondered how Eddie Stobart trucks get their livery?

Click on "Wrap Video"

:)

We currently have 1,500 tractor units which are on average 18 months old.
All trucks are "wrapped" with transparent, highly conformable, self-adhesive vinyl which offers maximum versatility and durability.

Those guys must be very busy! :D

They do Cars too, a Mini is done after the truck.

Very cool. I think the whole wrapping thing which is becoming increasingly popular is very cool. Gives anyone the option to have any colour/design on their car :)

When i read your OP i thought, 5 hours, thats a long time to do 1. Then I clicked your link and realised they were talking about the truck itself.
I used to work at Gray & Adams (i'm sure you've pulled one of their vans before!) and we had 2 guys there primarily doing livery, and they could do 4 vans a day. There was always a contractor in though, as we used to make 7 new vans a day, so that was a bit too much for 2 guys. Some of their company vans had the wildest graphics you've ever seen! They even had a focus done in girly pink bubbles!

This is a wrap, thought it looked quite cool (car is grey underneath)

Guy i used to work beside did this in his spare time. He used to pull all maner of things into the ware house to do, His supra was the most impressive, he also did the rally designs for celicas.

That's quite impressive to watch.. You do wonder the logistics of putting livery on trucks..

I just can't get over the 'naming' of a vehicle, kind of makes me think of some redneck naming his 'gun' in some unhealthy obsession kind of way, but each to their own!

:)

Usualy its people pay to get their kids names on them, very rarely the drivers tho

Looks pretty cool, you must have to be very precise!

One thing though, when they're using the knife to cut away bits of the unwanted wrap, surely that's going to scratch the paintwork?

It is quite useful for making a note of the truck that tried to squash your car into the central barrier when it decided that the truck infront that was going 0.2mph slower had to be overtaken that second desite the car in lane 2 being half way past.

Makes it much easier to make a complaint about a specific driver... not that I ever got around to it myself :o

uuummmm whats the reg plate for then?

far easier to remember a name than a random collection of numbers and letters.

Exactly.

The video is pretty impresive. I thought that the sections would have come more shaped to the vehicle rather than being customised on the fly. Although by doing so I guess it ensures a perfect fit.

doesn't the knife they are using harm the paint?

Looking closely at a wrapped Tractor unit, you can see some knife marks, that said, paint on HGV's is pretty tough.

Any marks gained whilst applying the wrap is more than compensated for by the protection the wrap offers the unit over its typical 3 year life within Eddie Stobart.

Our "Fleet Depot" at Chelford (James irlam Logistics former head office) is full of de-fleet 05 & 55 reg Scanias that have been de-wrapped ready for disposal, generally, apart from where the exposed white paint has faded, the condition of the cabs paintwork is remarkable for a 3 year old 500,000km+ unit.
