write failed error on F drive?

Hi,

i have this error coming up in windows

and my computer keeps freezing for about 20 seconds then continues to run...then repeats the process. i have checked for viruses and also defragged it. i actually stopped running msn messenger live before and the problem didn't arise, just let my computer load up with messenger and the problem comes back, could that be it? but i dont' know why that would be a the problem...

Your drive is possibly dying. Backup, backup, backup, and then download the diagnostic tool provided by your HDD manufacturer.

Over the years I've had far more dodgy cables than actual bad HDD, and in fact it'se also been the sata/ide port too a couple of times. So try them all out.

Exactly what do you have as an F drive ?
Is it still actually plugged in ?

thanks for the feedback. to answer a few questions it is a 6Y080LO maxtor hard drive to be precise. In the process of backing my music up now on to my mp3 player. although i will check the cables as well just to make sure they havent come loose.

I had this recently and it was a fault with a dodgy hard drive.
Like above though, it's cheaper and easier to check if it's a cable before swapping out the drive. Good luck
