Guys,

In your experience what do insurance companies generally regard as the threshold in terms of repair costs on a vehicle before they write that vehicle off? The garage have indicated an approximate repair cost of around £5500 for my vehicle, which is a lot in terms of % value of the car. At this stage i no-one seems to be able to advise me on what % they generally write off at so thought i'd get user experiences.

Cheers :/

Hire car costs are expected to be around £3500, making a £9000 total claim on my side.

Iffy :/

Only a minor bump really in the scheme of things, but S-class parts combined with the fact its an insurance job means a BIG bill.

£2000 damage done to my car. Worth £3500 at the time so more than 50% here. Like you I **** myself as to whether it would actually get repaired. Thankfully it did.

I dont mind if it gets written off, on a side note though, how do i get my plate back if they do write it off?

Garage have phoned saying its a total loss. No idea how things proceed, helphire currently have not heard back from the engineer's report.

We'll see.

As i say, it depends if i can buy the salvage back or not. I will have to see what the insurance company say. If i cant i dont know, either another S-class, or perhaps a BMW 7-series, maybe even an A8.

Only because you know what happened! - I did not know what happened and asked.

If that makes me an obsessive, I'll join you in that particular club. ;)

Unlucky Jez (or lucky depending how you look at it!) - E38 740i next? :)

It depends what happens, i may get the option to buy my car back, i may get cash for the repairs, i truely dont know what they will suggest happens :)

In the case of not getting the S-class back i think i will look at E39 (hard to find in a good spec)/E38's and E65's. With the market having fallen so much i may even look at more W220's.

So what are the details, someone must have given it a fair wack in the car park....

So what are you going to Le Mans in now?

Think im going to hitch a lift in my mates 355 assuming i dont get the merc back on the road in time. :) Yeah it was a fair whack, but no chassis damage as far as the engineer's report seems to indicate, just suspension and cosmetic. Its only being written off due to mercedes s-class labour & parts prices and huge car rental car charges.
