I was talking about building my PC at work and mentioned that one problem I'll have to face is installing my 2002 XP CD and then having to install all the subsequent updates, including SP2 etc. He mentioned that he thinks you can just write an 'up to date' XP SP2 CD after downloading the updates to my PC. Is this true, and if so, how do I do it?

nLite. Copy your XP cd to disk. Then download SP2 if your XP cd doesn't have it. Run nLite and point it to the folder your XP cd is copied to. You can then integrate SP2 if you need to and then download the update pack, 2.1.10, from http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/.

This has all the Windows updates for XP since SP2 was released. The update pack was only released on Sunday so its up to date.

The nLite site has a guide and FAQs if you need it. You can also use nLite to integrate drivers for your hardware, remove features/programs for Windows you don't need and enter CD key for XP so you can make the install fully automatic. Bung the disc in and it does it all without needing your input.

Ask back here for more info, search OcUK for nLite or look on the nLite forum. The nLite site has a link to the forum.

what marc said :)

might sound complicated, but its all really easy, and the guides on msfn will help you (probably don't need them tho, its pretty straight forward now!)

basically, select Service Pack Slipstreaming in nlite and hotfix integration, then point it at the ryanvm hotfix pack

echoing the above grab ryans updates pack i used his RVM_Integrator program to slipstream the updates currently updating my auto installing programs before running the thing through nlite to remove some bloat.

but back on topic the update pack is very handy tested it and only need about 3 updates off the windows update site

Excellent information guy's.I've read about nlite and the intergrated updates before but never got round to trying it . Does anyone know of a good guides out to help me understand the principles involved and exactly what to do ?

TO be honest the nLite things kinda guides you through it anyways as you run it and is a brilliant little prog.
