I'm setting up a band project at the moment with a few mates of mine. All been playing our instruments for 3+ years (not a long time, but we're far from terrible) and are far more interested in doing our own stuff rather than covers.
I'm writing the lead and rhythm/bass guitar myself, with the drummer doing the drums. We've got a few good riffs etc, but I was wondering if you guys could give me some tips on writing. What do you do to get yourself into the mood? Do you have a technique when writing?
Also, is there any technique in writing a break down (a la Dream Theater) riff?
I'd greatly appreciate any advice anyone can give - the more view points, the better.
