Its finding one that is unlocked is half the problem!Just buy a USB stick, they are not expensive?![]()
Its a 4G dongleAssuming this is a 4G/5G dongle or WiFi device then as above you can't - the device emulates a CD-ROM when the drivers aren't installed so as to present the driver files to the user. There may be some way to rewrite the firmware to make it more usable for unintended usages but it would be very limited as usually they only have a few MBs of space and the media has low write lifespan.
Its a 4G dongle
Probably best forget about the idea then and send it back to the seller
Thanks anyway All
because the software on it was wrong! they said they would send another one out in the post but they never did!Are you asking if it's possible to rewrite or replace the firmware on a USB dongle type modem/wireless device?
If so, may I ask why?
Maybe get yourself a 4G MiFi device instead of a dongle, don’t need any drivers.because the software on it was wrong! they said they would send another one out in the post but they never did!
MiFi?Maybe get yourself a 4G MiFi device instead of a dongle, don’t need any drivers.
MiFi?
If it has incorrect drivers on it for your OS, then to install the correct ones, you dont put the drivers you have downloaded "onto the drive". You would install them on your computer. You cannot change the software on the read only drive due to the reasons stated above.because the software on it was wrong! they said they would send another one out in the post but they never did!
where do you get the router from?Just a 4g router that means you don't need a USB dongle.
Just trying to plug an unlocked sim card mobile internet into a USB portExplain what your trying to do and someone will be able to help.
So in that case I really should install the drivers from another source right? Like online or the drivers on the other VodaFone locked dongle that i have right? If it has incorrect drivers on it for your OS, then to install the correct ones, you dont put the drivers you have downloaded "onto the drive". No I am OK for that one thanksIf you are simply after a USB storage device, don't go to phone shops looking for them,
A though Rymans and Smiths where book shops only. Tescos dont have any computer stuff in anymore, Currys and Argos only sell the locked VodaFone donglesif you are looking for a high-street retailer go to Rymans, Smiths (w/e its called now), Tesco, Currys etc . Or you can buy them online from any number of tech retailers, or amazon etc. From a quick search ocuk don't sell them themselves.
Any recomendations please? If you are wanting a different 4g or 5g device to connect to your computer to connect to the internet, then buy yourself a third party 4g or 5g modem dongle, or router and stick in the sim card that you have.
where do you get the router from?

They used to make loads of 4G USB dongles but there are very few 5G USB dongles. Instead they now use MiFi devices like the one I linked to above.
You connect to it over WiFi. It broadcasts an SSID which will show up in available WiFi networks.so how do i plug it into my computer?
