I was being a bit stupid up the last stretch of the M6 last night.. Wanted to get home quicker as I'd been sat in traffic on the M1 for about 2 hours so was going a bit faster than I should have been.

There was a car behind me doing the same speed but then backed off, I carried on going then saw a brief flash of blue lights from a beemer up behind him so I backed off to 70. The car didn't move over so the copper flashed him again and then he moved, he sped up behind me, followed me off onto the M62 then came off at the slip road.

Am I likely to get a written NIP for this or was he just trying to scare me?
 
They would have to have pulled you over and given you a verbal NIP as far as I know. It was likely they were attending to something more urgent.

Also, what do you mean by move over regarding the car behind? I assume you were both in the left lane of a quiet 3 lane motorway and the patrol car had room to pass on the right? If not, he was probably telling you to stop hogging the middle lane ;)

This sounds very plausible.
 
We were both in the fast lane, so the copper flashed the guy behind me to get him to move out of the way before coming up behind me.

If he was in a hurry to get somewhere, why did he speed up behind me and then follow me?

Guess I'll just have to cross my fingers and learn not to speed as much in the future!
 
You were in the outside lane, saw the lights, backed off to 70 in the outside lane, and thought you'd wait for the guy behind you to move over before you did? Why?

And there's no such thing as a fast lane.
 
Well you knew what I meant when I said the fast lane..

No, I moved over to the middle lane when I saw him flash his lights at the car behind me the first time and slowed to 70, the other car was a way back by then and the copper had to flash him again to get him to move over.
 
Probably saw you were both going a tad quick so was giving you a brief warning with the blues.

If he wanted to prosecute he'd have tugged you and given you a verbal NIP.
 
Possible he was following you to see if you'd speed up again. Prior to that if he was using a video recorder he wouldn't have any record of your car's identity as the car in front would be obscuring it.

Once it became apparent that you were onto him, he gave up and went to find someone else to hassle.

You won't be receiving a NIP from this.
 
Or maybe he saw you were going quick then backed off, which set his rozzer senses tingling. So he pulled up behind to get a look at your reg. Ran it through his magic box of tricks then after no alarm bells started ringing and he could see you weren't going to blast it up to triple digit speeds he went on his way.

This is all guesswork though but I very much doubt you'll hear any more of it.
