Hi there,

I just upgraded my CPU, GPU and RAM and while the GPU went in fine and the CPU was ok once I updated the BIOS, the RAM isn't perfect. It's running, but things like EasyTune and CPU-Z tell me it is 2x2GB PC2-6400 (800MHZ) Kingston RAM, when it should be 2x2GB PC2-8500 (1066MHZ) Kingston RAM. The old RAM was 6400 I think and made by Corsair, so it knows the manufacturer has changed and the amount of RAM is different.
The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-MA770-DS3 (rev 2)
CPU - AMD Phenom II X4 940 3GHZ
GPU - XFX GeForce GTX 275
OS - XP (SP3)
Any other info needed please let me know.
This isn't a really annoying problem as the RAM is still good. I just should be getting more from it. Also, I would not be keen on changing values in the BIOS as after trying that earlier the machine died for a while. And I have no idea why it is working again. The error beep it gave was for an improperly seared GPU, but it only worked again when I started messing about with the memory.

Any help you can give would be great. All I want to do is play Far Cry 2 without the fear of it dying on me.

Don't worry about CPU-Z showing your memory ad PC-6400 this is normal as I think PC-8500 is overclocked pc-6400.
The Corsair Dominator shows as pc-6400 in my machine :)

One thing you will need to check is the memory tab in CPU-Z, this should show 533, if not then you will need to manually set the speed in the BIOS.

I think you are right. CPU-Z is showing it as 400 so I may need to change the FSB frequency but otherwise it should be fine.

Except I think the RAM is faulty now as it is causing my computer to crash randomly and give error beeps.

Thanks a lot for your help
