My name is Ben on my birth certificate and passport , but on the tickets I am down as Benjamin.

There is another Ben going on holiday who is in the same predicament. His name is Benjamin and on his ticket he is down as being Ben.

Will the let us travel? Never had this problem before, so dont know if it will be a big deal or not. We go on Thursday and I have only just found this out...

Depends who you're flying with really. Ryanair and the like will kick up a fuss. Chartered airlines will be more accommodating.
How on Earth did you put the wrong name down?

Your going on holiday together... (seems this way given the wording of your post)

Your name is ben and your ticket says benjamin
his name is benjamin and his ticket says ben

You sure you havnt just got each others tickets?

Only if there's a huge coincidence they have the same surname

I got asked to use my full name next time by the check in staff, but they weren't too bothered. This was with easyjet, but the check in staff were some german airline. Technically they could refuse to let you fly i suppose, or charge you to change it. It would be best to phone and check before you get to the airport.

My ticket was booked with the wrong surname once, well was misspelled, was no problem, just had to go talk with them when I got there and explain.

Tbh, something that small won't make a difference, my name is Chris and my surname is very hard to spell unless I spell it out, even though it's 5 letters.

Anyway, the amount of things I have that vary between Chris and Christopher is stupid, my birth certificate says Christopher, my passport has Chris lol.

I really can't see this being a problem - my first name has been misspelled so many times down the years and I've never had an issue.

Side story: Just after I married we were taking an internal flight in the US and the wife's ticket had her new married name but her ID still had her maiden name. This proved to be more than anybody in the airport could handle. She had to go through extra security checks and was put on "the list" - every time we flew for the next two years she got pulled aside for extra screening

Depends where you're going too as well. I had a bit of an issue going though US passport control when my Ticket said Dave, but passport said David.

Not a problem. If it's a short/long version like Ben/Benjamin it's usually fine. Only if the name is very different will they raise eyebrows.

Rang first choice who has told us that they need to be the exact names.

£50 per person to change it though!! WTF?? How can it be so much, do we have anything to argue against them? Or is it a case of take it on the balls and move on?

Who typed the names in? Was it a travel agent or done online?

If its' a travel agent I would take it up with them, if it's you or a friend. Looks like it's a costly mistake.

It was my friend and it was done on the internet, so in regards to blaming it on someone, it is blatantly no one other than ourselves... Bit rubbish really.

I take it you think there is nothing we can do then?
