Wrong timings on ram / cpu voltage query

Hi,

I recently purchased some new ram as the old stuff died.

I got these: OCZ Platinum Series 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel.

I tried looking in cpu-z first of all, and the result showed that they are just PC2-6400 ?!

I also tried just now overclocking in the bios, 3.6ghz worked fine. As soon as I upped it to 4ghz (which I thought with the new ram it would handle fine) the Bios didn't load and Windows had been reset.

Voltage I used for cpu was 1.27

thanks,

PC2-8500 are what I am lead to believe is overclocked PC2-6400, you will need to manually setup the BIOS with correct settings.

You may need to increase the voltage on the Vcore and also check the voltage for the memory.

I looked in the bios for both voltage of memory, and timings, but I don't think I changed/saw the correct thing.

Could anyone tell me what it is according to these pics:

Change the system memory multiplier until 756 gets near 1066, as your overclocked it might not be spot on.

As you increase the overclock this will increase the ram frequency which may require you to drop the multiplier of the ram, again you might not get 1066 spot on.

Go to the SPD tab and change from manual to Auto then look on the side of the memory modules for timmings.

(Above is in the first screen)

DDR2 Overvoltage control: Change to 2.1v or increase by .3v

(Above is in 2nd screen)

Just to confirm on the SPD tab, when changing to manual... only one side of the numbers change (which I will do if correct, starting from the top 5 - 5 - 5 - 15).

Also, what sort of cpu volts should i be looking at? 1.3v for 4ghz?

That's correct, change the top 4 numbers :)

Try 1.3v and see how you get on, I would go above 1.38v personally.

ok, at 3.8ghz.

Forgot to change ram timings, going back now. But does this look good/stable. Think the fsb looks way too high for my liking

I would not worry, but depends if you want 4ghz, performance I suspect would be minimal.

is the rated fsb not too high? The motherboard states :

Supports Intel® Core™ 2 multi-core and 45nm processors to FSB 1600 (O.C.)

so 1692 is too high?

I believe this is for the cpu's which have 1600mhz fsb as std, ie the QX9770 which you would need to overclock to get the chip to run at default.

oops.

Tried 3.99ghz - timings bang on 1066.

Bootmgr corrupt, unable to load OS.

Had to go back to 3.6ghz just for the recovery disk to load windows recovery properly.

Currently blue-screening after windows startup.

running at 3.99ghz (444x9)
SPD: 2.40 (1066)
Manual timing control: 5-5-5-18
DDR2 Overvoltage: 0.3V
CPU Voltage control - 1.356v

edit: Just had a Blue-screen at 3.8ghz while playing a film and web browsing.

cpu voltage at 1.26
ram voltage 2.01 ( 5-5-5-18)

Just wondering, could the ram voltage be too low? Should I go from +0.2 to +0.3 (even tho it is in the "pink" colour)?
