Well, as the Networking buyer at Overclockers it really is amazing the following that the WRT54GL router has on this forum and with the overclockers customer base.

I thought it would be rude not to show you the latest Linksys by Cisco product due for launch soon. The WRT160NL is in essence the WRT54GL with Wireless N technology.

The thing that made the WRT54GL so great was the Tomato firmware which works on top of the Linux Open Source engine. Well the same is for the 160NL, this will also have a massive following.

Stock is fairly limited for launch date, which is around the 8th July.

The product is now available to pre-order for only £65.99 inc VAT.

You say it "will also have a massive following", but is this (as the WRT54GL was) just the version of the WRT160N that other firmwares ran on (which from what I can gather was the v1.1; Sveasoft and DD-WRT certainly support that) or something else?

If this support dd-wrt and/or Tomato I think I'll have to purchase it.

A quick google seems to give somewhat inconclusive information...

DD-WRT say it works on the v1 and v1.1 WRT160N, so if the WRT160NL is just that it should work fine.
Tomato AFAIK doesn't work on any Linksys 802.11n router.

Cheers for the info. I'm pretty inexperienced when it comes to dd-wrt and tomato so it's hard to be sure that what I'm reading on random sites found via google is being understood correctly :)

they should release a 4 port and 8 port L version with wireless N and gigabit..

then pay the Tomato guy to make the firmware for them

What's the throughput like for WAN<>LAN ? The reason I sold my WRT54GL and got the DIR655 DLink was due to poor throughput on my 20MB line when all lan users were connected and using the LAN bandwidth resulting in the router soft rebooting itself multiple times throughout the week.

And no Gigabit ports to couple the Wireless-N? :O

I'd consider if due to the nice features of Tomato and I could make money by selling my DLink DIR-655 but I dunno, it seems far too cheap to be a competitor to the DIR-655?

This Router is arriving with us tomorrow - just received confirmation from our supplier, they have shipped today :)

Be interesting to see how people fare with this actually as I can then recommend it to people instead of the WRT54GL as they're getting hard to find in normal shops!

An extra £30 will get you the Sitecom WL-308, just what you're looking for :p
