Hi all,

I share my net connection with my housemate using a Linksys WRT54G and he has a habit of leaving his P2P stuff chugging away uploading all manor of cr*p to everyone with no regard for anyone else using the connection. Is there any way of configuring the router to set maximum up/download limits for his PC?

Thanks

Russ

Does port blocking help? (assuming he doesn't have router access)

By that I mean just make sure the firewall is on and his ports aren't forewarded properly. (should slow him down)

this is the same question i have, i dont think my router does it not sure about yours. I was thinking it should be as easy as installing a program that runs a service in the background of the other computer to cap it somehow but not sure if thats the best solution and dont know of any

I cant block his access completely, I just want to limit his k/s for upload and download. I don't mind playing with 3rd party router firmwares

If you use third party firmware e.g. DD-WRT, you can use QoS.

QOS and Application filtering are available on the default firmware easily

Ah, so it is. My mistake, I'm away from home and I forgot the features which Thibor and DD-WRT offer over standard.

I would use these features but it's more fun to run downstairs and start hitting people :p

*joke!

I already use the access restrictions to completely cut him off during the day in the week. What I need to do is also limit his bandwidth allowance when he isn't cut off. I am currently using "Firmware Version: v3.03.6 - HyperWRT 2.1b1" on my router.

I have the QoS options but no idea how to use them to achieve what I want, can anyone shed some light? Maybe a different firmware which has easier to configure options?

Thanks guys, got the latest DD-WRT loaded now and it seems to be suitable. I have configured the netmask priority for our 2 IP addresses (they are static). Which would be best to set them to priority wise. Exempt for me and Standard for him?
