Guys,

Looking for some help/advice.

I think my WRT54G running Tomato 1.28 is on the way out, it has started intermittantly loosing its internet connection and needs rebooted to gain functionality.

It provides internet connectivity to my parents house 4 doors down using the WDS function within the Tomato 1.28 firmware.

Is there a newer router available that can run a similar firmware and still provide connectivity to the WRT54G down the road, the parents use theirs very little so would not be looking to upgrade this unit.

I suppose, the free version would be to swap routers but then I would receive calls ocassionally having to get them to reboot before they can check their emails.

Thanks

If you have the cash you could have a look at the Asus RT-N16.

I recently bought it after coming from the WRT54GL with tomato and I am really impressed. I have tomato USB with VPN support running on it and everything is working flawlessly. It has wireless-N which Im not using at the moment but down the line when I decide to upgrade everything I think I will do. At the moment the wireless connectivity is very good even for 54g. Has USB ports so I can connect USB disks etc and am able to see them on the network from any PC which is nice.

It seems to be the router everyone considers is the modern day replacement of the WRT54GL.
