WRT54GL + Tomato - Why does my XBox Live not work suddenly - and what are these QOS?

Hey,

I live in shared accomodation at uni - we have a two meg Virgin package between 8 of us, which isn't great, but we can usually usemy 360 on XBox Live pretty nicely.

However since we've been back after Easter, internet has been a little on and off, but generally seems to be ok, however XBox live is appalling. Halo won't find any games. Last night Battlefield was perfect for some reason - but usually won't load and I can't even hear my friends on Live properly.

My WRT54GL is in the hall, but we have ethernet cable sockets fitted into each of our rooms, and in mine I have a 4 way switch fitted (to share with my PC and Macbook).

I have Tomato loaded, and the following settings are loaded in.

- XBox IP loaded into the DMZ (Do I have to load in Source Address
Restriction?)

- Access restriction set to: 'all banned except the following IP address', and the 360 address is in here (makes it easy to disconnect people in the house who are torrenting).

- QOS is enabled (this goes over my head, my house mate set it up:

Basic Settings
Prioritize small packets with these control flags: (Only ACK Selecter)
ICMP not prioritized
A load of limiting settings in (if these are relevant then let me know)

ClassificationWWW - High
WWW (512+) - Low
DNS - Highest
DNS (2k+) - Lowest
Bulk Traffic - Lowest

Ask me if any more settings are relevant - if you can help me work out if there is a problem with the way my router is set up it would be great - if any of you can explain what my housemates settings mean (like what www, DNS and bulk traffic represent) it would be very much appreciated.

He knows more than me about networking, but is generally an utter, utter cretin so could have made a schoolboy error.

Thanks,

Alex

They represent what they say - WWW is web traffic, DNS is...DNS traffic and bulk traffic is things like torrents which shift data in bulk.

There's nothing sticks out as wrong in what you've said, but you don't need to have the Xbox in the DMZ. Either use uPnP or forward the ports manually.
