looked this up and seems good as i dont have a net connection at min.

But wondered if any you folks use it,

work ok ?
does it do any harm in future when i update normally online ?
will it leave lots of temp files, dont want that with my ssd ?

planning on a fresh install you see and this would really help me out,,
I also have a win7 upgrade version, so only plan on installing it once incase i only get one go at activating online.
Thats why im asking about this software (wsus)

Thanks in advance any info would be great ;)

If your machine is completely offline, you don't need the security updates, which most of them tend to be.

Usually if it won't activate online, then phoning up will get it sorted (even with just the automated system).

If you're talking about http://www.wsusoffline.net/ (?), it would seem that all it does is download all the relevant exes, and store them. Then install them. Effectively how Windows Update would do it.

As for temporary files, you're likely to have more issues with a bloated winsxs folder

No harm. Regular online updates will work fine.

Threats don't just come from the Internet. USB drives are often used to spread malware. Windows machines should always be kept up-to-date, even if they aren't connected to a network.

Hi reedy
yes thats the program i mean..
did you mean if i use this wsus program i would make winsxs folder worse ?
or does it get bloated anyway ? is there a way of cleaning it up ?

Works perfectly, use it a lot in work.

I carry it around on my USB HDD with XP, W7, Office updates on for machines that arent connected to the internet.

You can have files from service pack upgrades removed, which may save you some space. It tends to be generally recommended to not empty the whole thing though..
