hi guys ive just found out my friend has just got fibre optic so i decided to check if i could get it and its a no how is this possible we live in the same village and i live around the corner from the exchange and he lives about a mile away, the bt go on to say my connection should be between 17 and 19mbps i get 8 on a good day, then to top it off im paying more than he is, is there anything i can do to speed my connection up

Same boat as me.
I know someone around the corner from me and the chinese takeaway down the road (sprinting distance) can get Fibre on their cabinet but i can't. The reason is, i'm too close to the exchange apparently. The really close cabinets are pretty much last in line where i am because we get good ADSL(2+).

I just found out that whilst the rest of my town is getting fibre, I'm not.
I struggle to get 3Mb, 8Mb would be a blessing.

If your line is directly connected to the exchange then you will be waiting a long time for VSDL;

As echoed with previous posts, if you're connected to the exchange directly you'll be the last to be looked at by BTOpenreach, as per this video they released a while back.
