Downloaded the new killzone map pack, went to play the game & my PS3 wont read the game disc, get the spinning icon in the top right hand corner that goes but no game icon
Tried both KZ2 & RFOM neither work. Tried a normal dvd film disc & a blu ray film & they work

My mate gets read errors on his 60Gb. He has to have the play disc on startup option enabled to get into games now.

My money on a corrupt harddrive.

Might have to do a full format

You might be right, tried to backup the data on the hdd to an external one & it wouldnt work, kept putting up an error. I've used the external drive before & its worked fine, its actually the original 60gb drive from my PS3, got a 320gb hhd inside PS3 now for Playtv.
Wonder why a knackered hdd would stop PS3 from putting up the game icon in menu though  Plus i can still play UFC demo stored on hdd.

Some of the PS3 firmware is located on the HDD, perhaps something to do with copy protection stoping games being played?

Playtv worked fine lastnight, recorded what i wanted & i was able to watch what was stored on hdd. I'm still able to play UFC demo so its not the gfx card & i can still watch bluray films so the laser should be ok, whats wrong with my PS3 then? :(

You were right it was a corrupt hdd, when i was trying to backup my hdd i was getting error code 8001002A, googled the fault & i found the solution.

1. If you power off your PS3 and then power it on again while holding the power button until you hear 2-3 fast beeps you will enter the PS3 restore mode.
2. Then you can select multiple restore options. You select file system restore. (The PS3 will then restore the broken filesystem, it take a couple of minutes or so.)
3. When restore is complete you will be able to use the backup utility again to backup your HDD.

I did this & my PS3 started working again, woohoo!!! :D
Must have happened when i downloaded & installed the new KZ2 maps. Dont know why it would stop me playing games from bluray discs but demos were ok, just glad my little beauty is ok :)
