WTF! Live renewal..

I always thought it was rather dishonest of them to force you to call up to cancel the subscription. That's why I always use pre paid cards only.

I got into a load of **** with them after they auto renewed me but my credit card had expired. I did not know anything about it and they are making things really difficult for me. They can shove it and I will now ALWAYS use pre paid cards from now on.

I would suggest everyone does the same as I never wanted to be auto renewed anyway.

P.S. A years card is cheaper than using your credit card anyway.

In my experience Microsoft will try and charge an expired card, tell you it's been charged, then months later get around to telling you it failed :)

Surprising amount of people claiming that its a con, they didnt know or its dishonest.
So you dont bother reading the service agreement which was presented to you at the time you signed up for the service? You then ticked the box to confirm that you will abide by that agreement, only to moan about them doing exactly what they said they would do. Hardly blooming MS fault is it?

Read section - 6.5 Subscription Renewal.

Are you serious?

There should be an option whether to auto re-subscribe or not when paying. Also you should be able to cancel your subscription without having to call up MS.

What technical reason is there for the inability to cancel though the xbox if you can quite happily sign up?

Microsoft still playing the same old scam then? Its just a trick to get the lazy or forgetful to not bother cancelling, these sort of scams are not far off stealing from their customers, a disgusting practice tbh.

It's not like it's unexpected, it tells you when you sign up it'll auto-renew.
I never said it was unexpected, and since I always use Live scratch cards I never get caught out, but many people can easily get caught out if they don't remember exactly a year later. What's your argument against having the option not to auto renew the subscription then?

Precisely. Surely this is blindingly obvious to everyone.

There really is no valid counter argument for not including it.

How can it be a scam when it states if in the agreement which YOU accept and YOU should read. Also I really am amazed that this guy cancelled his card and didn't just phone MS

:/

Is the guy me? Oh yeah it is, I used the live thing as an excuse I wanted to cancel the card anyway, especially if it helped me in not forgetting to cancel the renewal next year!

You do realise cancelling the card may not stop it?

If it set up as a continous authority on the account it wont matter, you could even close the account and it'll still charge

Aye, HSBC informed me of it when I cancelled the card anyhoo. I told MS I wanted off the renewal list anyway.

Like I said I was always going to cancel the card, this was just an excuse to do it now.

Funny thing is I'm so oblivious to transactions going out of my account I have been setup for this since the first Xbox released and me getting a subscription then!

Silly silly.

Why are people arguing against a simple check box not to auto renew?

Bloody weird lot on OcUK, will argue just for the sake of it.
