hey guys,

just thought i would update on my broadband situation..after engineer after engineer, my broadband was fixed, YES!

NO! internal fault on the line and the boy was here first thing this morning and everything was fine, long story short it was the router at fault!

so kudos to SKY for their help and fast dispatch for BT engineers. The problem now though was the replacement router.

i phoned up and told them the rigmarole and they had case files anyway for my situation, and to get a replacement router as my current one was for 12 months, was..wait for it..£69 PLUS £7 odd P+P!! WTF

i manged to speak to the lady bla bla bla, finally offered me one for £29 PLUS the P+P. which is better but if i had my brain switched on i would have bought a new one from the bay.

so on one hand SKY have been great, but STILL ripping off current customers, i mean, come on!

Who pays for the BT engineer then as i thought if a fault was not found on the line they are responsible for someone gets charged.

as far as I'm aware, after a wee chat to engineer about things, its sky that takes the hit, don't get me wrong they have been very very helpful over the problems the past few months, but for a customer for years and years, there is a faulty equipment piece, to charge that for the replacement is crazy!

and it shows there margins considering the change in price by drooping £40 off it

Sky currently don't pass on any Openreach charges to the customer.

£69 get you a full router kit, as a new customer would get. £29 get you a refurb with just router and power lead but still with a 12 month guarantee.

Or you could pay £59 and get the Hub 3 with dual band wifi including AC and two gigabit Ethernet ports?

all i need is the router anyways so a refurb dont matter, as long as it works lol!

will report back once i have it and see how i get on with it...

Couldn't you just get a different router that supports MER authentication? Even though the DSL modem side of the router is dead you may still be able to packet capture and get your radius credentials out of it?

Other than the Q Hub all Sky routers are trash. If you're not getting the Q then get a third-party jobbie that's compatible with the service.
