Okay, I know this is a minor problem, it would be fixed by rebooting, it's just I've used XP for many years now, since SP1 and I've never seen this problem before.

As the computer was booting into windows I was testing the sound by clicking on the audio icon to change the volume and listen for a beep. Because the computer was still starting it took a while to turn up. When it did I had two of them. I clicked on one, sound worked, clicked outside it to exit it. That worked. But the second one refuses to go. I can change the volume with it but no matter what I do I can't get rid of it. And it's showing up over other windows.

Obviously a reboot would fix this but I've just never seen this before. Was curious to see if there's a way to get rid of it or has anyone seen this before?

If it's the standard Windows volume control and not a third-party one, look for "sndvol32.exe" under "Processes" in Task Manager. If it is there, try to kill it.

Ah I see that now. For some reason i just assumed it would be a service and not show up in task manager. Thanks :)
