"We are very actively working to eradicate the use of steroids and performance enhancing drugs in the WWE," company spokesman Gary Davis said. "Today's action is part of that effort."

Though WWE did not name the performers, ESPN: The Magazine named six men who were suspended.

Wrestlers Shoichi Funaki, Dave Bautista, Adam "Edge" Copeland, Chris "Masters" Mordetsky, John "Johnny Nitro" Hennigan, and Shane Helms were suspended Thursday, the magazine reported.

OMFG!! I can't believe this  Massively over-developed, low bodyfat wrestlers are using steroids

 :D

The list according to Sports Illustrated's
- Benoit, who died June 24, 2007, received nandrolone and anastrozole in February 2006. (Anastrozole is used by athletes to counter side effects of steroid use, such as water retention and breast enlargement.)

- Two weeks prior to Eddie Guerrero's death on Nov. 13, 2005, he was sent nandrolone, testosterone, and anastrozole. Guerrero died in a Minneapolis hotel room due to what a coroner later ruled as heart disease, complicated by an enlarged heart resulting from a history of anabolic steroid use.

- Chavo Guerrero, who found his uncle Eddie dead in the Minneapolis hotel room, received, among other drugs, somatropin (HGH), nandrolone and anastrozole between April 2005 and May 2006.

- Between November 2003 and February 2007, Shane Helms, a/k/a The Hurricane, received, among other drugs, testosterone, genotropin (HGH) and nandrolone. (As previously reported by SI, he allegedly received HGH from an Arizona doctor in 2005.)

- Starting in September 2004 through February 2007, Randy Orton received somatropin, nandrolone, stanozolol.

- John Hennigan, a/k/a Johnny Nitro, a.k.a. Johnny Morrison, is the current WWE Extreme Championship Wrestling's heavyweight champion. Between June 2006 and February 2007 he was prescribed somatropin, anastrozole, testosterone, stanozolol and chorionic gonadotropin, a hormone produced naturally during pregnancy. (HCG is taken by anabolic steroid users to stimulate the production of testosterone, which is suppressed as a result of steroid use.)

- Ken Anderson, a/k/a Mr. Kennedy, lost to Eddie Guerrero in Guerrero's final match on Nov. 11, 2005. Kennedy received shipments of anastrozole, somatropin and testosterone between October 2006 and February 2007.

- Shoichi Funaki received somatropin in March 2006.

- Brian Adams, a/k/a Crush, who retired from the pro circuit in 2001, was found dead of unknown causes on Aug. 13. He received nandrolone, testosterone and Somatropin or HGH in December 2006.

- Charles Haas was prescribed anastrozole, somatropin, stanozolol, nandrolone and chorionic gonadotropin between August 2006 and January 2007.

- Edward Fatu received somatropin between July and December 2006.

- Between November 2004 and November 2006, Darren Matthews received stanozolol, somatropin, genotropin, and anastrozole.

- Adam Copeland, a/k/a Edge, received somatropin, genotropin (both HGH), and stanozolol between September 2004 and February 2007.

- Sylvain Grenier received somatropin, nandrolone, genotropin and stanozolol, starting in February 2005 through July 2006.

i saw this earlier today.

There are rumors going round of another 2 being suspended today although nothing confirmed as yet.

will be interesting to see the effect this has on WWE

That's the funniest thing I've ever heard... they'll be testing Mr.Olympia and Mr.Universe next

Seriously though they are going to have to ban everybody, what a farce!

I heard this on the radio and how they have just relised this i will never know

I don't think they have just realised but after the fallout from the Chris Benoit incident public opinion and awareness has been raised so they will have to tighten up their procedures and actually properly do testing for drugs (at least for a short while) hopefully rather than just paying lip-service to it. As far as I recall (not that I've paid much attention) there was officially a policy of drug testing in the WWE but it was never seriously followed but now there might be or maybe it will just be a passing thing while public awareness is up.

im wondering if it will affect any of the big stars. they dont seem to have been suspended?

big stars of WWE or TNA?

It seems like it may be hitting some of the bigger stars of WWE

As for it being a shock, it looks like this has all stemmed from the Benoit investigation and the names of those involved have been then passed onto WWE who have no choice but to take action. It will also raise a number of questions about why the WWE's suposed internal testing has not picked up these before so expect a few more names to come out in the near future.

gotta laugh, its not like it hasnt been going on for years and years. even the boss has done it in his time.

As I said in another thread:

Yup, there is talk that 9 of them will be suspended for 30 days with no pay and the other will be suspended for 60 days with no pay. That's all it is, they'll be back as soon as the suspension is over, it's not as if they are being sacked. It's because they have breached the WWE's wellbeing policy.

Also it's not due to the taking of steroids, it's due to taking steroids that were obtained from a shady pharmaceutical company that has given steroids and other drugs to lots of other sports stars. There are reports that 2 NFL starts at least will be suspended in conjunction with the same company. The steroids were being given out with a Doctors consent.

irc, the WWE, like the NFL and numerous other sports, have a set limit to how much of a certain legal drug they can have in their system. It's something like 1.1 something, whereas the NFL is 1.4 (can't remember it exactly, but imagine a breathalyser test.

i darte bet there all injured in osme way.

all this is is a publicity stunt to make it look like the WWE is doing something howeber all there doing is giving these guys a reason to time out.

Why take performance enhancing drugs in a sport that is fixed anyway ?

To improve Muscle definition/mass etc etc. Load of crap really. It's not like you get to the body state some of them are in without taking steroids to reach the next level it's obvious a lot of them were taking them.

gotta laugh, its not like it hasnt been going on for years and years. even the boss has done it in his time.

Its sad that the use and abuse of drugs in Wrestling has been ignored for years and they only decide to do something about it after a series of tragedies!

and there hasnt been drug related tragedies before?
its because vince knows that this time it will be much more damaging if nothing is done about it.

<snip..>Dave Bautista, Adam "Edge" Copeland, Chris "Masters" Mordetsky</snip...>

Really, they took steroids?

Didn't the old WWF get sued because of the same thing in the 80s?
