Current spec:

5800X
32GB 3600mhz
3080 FE
AW3423DW

I'm toying with upgrading my GPU to either a 4080 or a 7900XTX, I'd love to give AMD a shot but I fear I may miss DLSS and the RTX performance. Also need to upgrade my PSU, so I'm toying with a BeQuiet Straight Power 12 ATX 3.0 1000w jobber as my current Dark Power Pro was purchased around the time I had a 7970 setup in Crossfire. So that's got to be 10-11 years old I guess.

Games wise I mostly play BF2042, R6: Siege, Hunt Showdown, CP:2077 and looking forward to Starfield. The latter being the main driver for upgrading, the other games don't struggle on the 3080 (well apart from CP:2077) at 3440x1440.

I'm thinking PSU for sure, but GPU I'm stuck wondering whether I should stay with NVidia or take a punt on AMD... or just sit tight and wait for something new to materialise. Guess that's a way off though.

If you get the 7900 XTX it doesn't have a 12 pin, but 3x 8 pins, so your PSU might be more appropriate for this card than you'd think.

If my current PSU wasn't so long in the tooth, I'd entertain it but it's out of warranty and it makes me a little twitchy. It's done valiantly, and tbh will probably live for many more years in one of the kid's PCs but I'd rather something a little newer. Especially if I'm putting £1k+ of GPU on it.

Fair point on the GPU power options, the PSU I'm looking at has 2x 12 pin connectors which IIRC each break out in to 2x 6+2 per cable.
