Right, i have Virgin Broadband through the modem they give you. I have no router.

I assumed that i could just unplug the ethernet cable from the PC and plug it in the 360. This is not the case.

Says there are problems with the connection. I run the test and it stops at the IP Address stage.

Can anyone offer advice on how i can make this work.

Also what is the cheapest solution to have both pluged in at the same time as i did with my ADSL router.

Now im on cable for somereason my brain isnt working as well.

Thanks
Zero.

Switch your modem off and on - waiting until the lights have completely settled down before connecting it to your 360.

If you took it straight out of your PC and in to your 360 it will have become confused!

The cheapest method would be (if you've got another Ethernet port on your PC) to bridge the connections and run it through your PC. I think you might have to use ICS actually, I'm not entirely sure.

The best way however, would be to simply buy a router.

I'm not really too familiar with decent brands/models, as far as I know pretty much anything OcUK sells here will do the job!

The Linksys WRT54GL that you linked to is probably one of the more popular routers - it's cheap and runs all sorts of third-party firmware.

Yup I have that setup using a WRT54G with the Tomato firmware, has great a great QoS system so you can download to your hearts content and xbox live doesn't suffer
