X-Box 360 Core..........

It's like a big memory card - i think it's needed for downloading stuff simply due to the space it offers.
 
You need a memory card if you don't get an HDD, most core bundles are coming with a memory card though.
 
Personally I'd go for a premium. It just offers you so much more as a console for the money.

I wanted a 360 at launch so I had to get a core. I have since upgraded it by getting the HDD. Best £70 I have ever spent. I do not know how I managed on a 64MB memory unit.

The HDD is for saving games, downloads, arcade games, demos etc. You can not use a USB HDD for these features, but you can attach USB devices to listen to music from.

Yes, but a memory card is needed to save the xbox live profile etc. I got on for a year without a hard drive fine but then I stole my brothers :p You do not need one but for the extra money it is worth it.
