I cant find the answer so thought i would do a quick post!

I want to get an xbox controller hooked up to my PC, but i know some of my friends have not been able to do it, is there a trick to doing it?

Some advice would be welcome!

as long as its a wired one, or you have a wireless adapter then your all good to go

the play and charge kit is NOT a wireless adapter, it simply gives power to the rechargeable batteries. however, the play and charge kit itself does work in a PC

It can be a bit difficult sometimes, mine took a while to get connected (I got mine off the bay so I'm not sure if it's completely official, it looks it though)

It is 100% Official. You need either the wired USB version OR.

The xbox 360 controller wireless reciever for Windows.

Make sure you press the connect button on reciever and you power on the controller.

Windows 7/Vista will do the rest.

its microsoft so plug and play is very easy - u can even buy a wireless usb adapter for wireless controllers (for as little as 8£ish) on the big market

i had no problem getting mine working.

i even have a 2nd running in ubuntu that worked without any real effort as well

the only issue im having is, im playing BF3, vibration does not work.
(when connected the not so recommended PS3 pad, the vibration works)
everything else on the x360 controller works fine.

Hey Guys, first post after years lurking!!

There is a trick if its not 100% genuine wireless reciever.
you may need to go to device manager - then usb devices should throw an error - ignore automatically detect the drivers - manually choose windows gaming controller then select xbox 360 controller.

I've had the same problem twice with my adapter and also a mate had the same issue and this sorted it
