I've got an ancient 5.1 surround sound system which still works brilliantly, which I'd like to connect my X-box to.

It seems like the common approach is to get some sort of HDMI audio extractor that sits in-between the Xbox and the Monitor I'm using, and then use that to then connect to the 3x 3.5mm speaker inputs.
I'm nervous of spending around £100 which will get me the job done, but with any sort of lag, or cause issue with the screen.
Does anyone have any experience of this or have any guidance to offer?
